    Welcome!

    This is the official thread for our first-ever Tough-It-Out UEL Ryder Cup, to be held during the second half of May @ ChambersBay.

    We've now had several 'fancy-club' UEL Ryder Cups, but never yet a Tough-It-Out Starters-only event. And in response to popular demand, here it is! I apologize for the relatively short notice, but with the realization that we can only play UEL at Chambers Bay in multiplayer mode right now (and probably this will be the case until after the VUSO) this seemed like perfect timing.

    I want this to be an informal, fun event without the full-on pressure of the fancy-club UEL RCs... so there is no complicated qualification process, and teams will not be chosen strictly on merit. Participation is by self-selection, but if we have more players wanting to play than we can accommodate, preference will go to those who have taken part in the Tough-It-Out monthly events this year (in parallel to the official VT) [see April example here with links to the others].

    Russ (ColumbusStorm) has kindly offered to captain the US Team, and I will skipper the ROW team, unless another experienced TIO veteran wishes to volunteer.

    The Tough-It-Out UEL Ryder Cup will run Sat 5/16 to Sun 5/31.

    It will be played with Starter gear only: Starter woods, irons and putter, and the Starter ball.

    Update: 5/19: Use of FocusBoost is NOT permitted!

    If you wish to take part, please reply in a post here indicating the team you would like to represent, and filling out the Sign Up and Time Availability form here. Also, please indicate if you do not have screenshot posting skills!

    You will be committing to a maximum of 3 multiplayer matches over the 16 day period, scheduled at times that work for you and your opponents: one 9-hole Fourball, one 18-hole AltShot, and one 18-hole singles. You can play the matches in any order that works for scheduling, not waiting for all of one series to finish before scheduling the next series. As many players will wish to avoid switching back and forth between club sets, we may well find many matches bunched together. Also, please note that scheduling needs may result in participants not playing all matches.

    You should NOT sign up if your internet or computer set-up makes it unlikely to complete multiplayer games!

    DO sign up if you like the challenge of playing with Starters, love Uneven Lies, and are willing and able to play multiplayer games where par can be a great score and a birdie will truly deserve to win a hole!

    SIGN UP with your TIME AVAILABILITY HERE!

    <reserved for Event Format, conditions etc and List of Matches>

    --------------------------------------------------------------

    Here is the Overview pic of all the matches. I'll keep this updated on the spreadsheet (it's the 1st tab) with match scores as they come in.

    **********************************************************

    The first-ever TIOUELRC @CB [Tough-It-Out Uneven Lies Ryder Cup at Chambers Bay] has now finished. Congratulations to Team ROW on a fine win.

    The Overall Match score was:

    Team USA 7.5   |  Team ROW 12.5

    And, here, for your amusement, are the Player Stats from the event:

    johehejo wins the plaudits as the only player on either team with a 100% record with 3 wins, while Daskino also remained undefeated with 3.5 points from his 4 matches.

    **********************************************************

    The line-up of matches (for all Series in the Event) is below:

    PLEASE NOTE: we are playing this event all at once! Schedule your matches whenever you can make them work: you do not have to wait for one series to finish (or even start) before playing the next!

    Some players (myself included) don't like switching back and forth from fancy clubs to starters... it ruins the timing. So several of us hope to bunch our games together in a block that allows us to play both rounds of the TIO event @ Congo as well, and still fulfill our other weekly tourney commitments with fancies. (For instance, I'm going to change to starters Tue 5/19 & stick with them for practice and actual matches through this event till 5/29.)

    ----------------------

    FourBall (Best Ball) series with a set of 5 matches to be played over the back 9 holes at Chambers Bay with the following conditions:

    Chambers Bay :: 4-Player Strokeplay :: Practice Mode :: Back 9 :: default pins :: Blue (Easy) tees :: Tourney12 Green Speed :: High Wind :: Uneven Lies :: 60 second timer

    Please note: Matches should end at the 18th, if they haven't ended earlier. You should not play Extra Holes. If match is tied after the 18th hole, then the result is A/S, and each team wins 1/2 pt.

    The line-up for the Fourball matches is as follows (see Availability Chart here):

                   Team USA                 vs                 Team ROW

    A ::  tygerjr & papagrasutu               vs        FairwayRuepel68 & johehejo

    B ::  bhoese & DaveDwingdale        vs        mkrizan86 & Corwyn

    C ::  philbrown4 & ab1983               vs        Daskino & MatildaIgaly

    D ::  Wesdogg75 & fredsf                vs        JoeMaverick & pierolitfiba

    E ::  ColumbusStorm & mmyers0    vs        razza31 & Corwyn

    Here is the Fourball Chart in the spreadsheet (and below in pic form, click on pic to see in large view)

    ************************************************************

    Foursomes (Alt Shot) with a set of 5 matches to be played over 18 holes at Chambers Bay with the following conditions:

    Chambers Bay :: 4-Player Alt Shot :: Scored Mode :: Full 18 :: Uneven Lies :: 60 second timer :: all other conditions as set by the game lobby

    Please note: Matches should end at the 18th, if they haven't ended earlier. You should not play Extra Holes. If match is tied after the 18th hole, then the result is A/S, and each team wins 1/2 pt.

    The line-up for the Foursomes (Alt Shot) matches is as follows (see Availability Chart here):

                   Team USA                 vs                 Team ROW

    A ::  Wesdogg75 & fredsf                   vs      FairwayRuepel68 & johehejo

    B ::  ab1983  & DaveDwingdale         vs       Corwyn & Daskino

    C ::  ColumbusStorm & mmyers0   vs       mkrizan86 & razza31

    D ::  tygerjr & philbrown4                    vs       pierolitfiba & mkrizan86

    E ::   bhoese &  ColumbusStorm        vs      MatildaIgaly & JoeMaverick

    Here is the Foursomes Chart in the spreadsheet (and below in pic form, click on pic to see in large view)

    ************************************************************

    FYI: the procedure for figuring out who tees off first within each AltShot team is explained in WGT's FAQ (copied below, with my emphasis):

    How are the teams made?

    The creator of the game invites 3 other people to play, then chooses a partner from one of those players to form Team Green. The remaining 2 players form Team Gold, and the representative for Team Gold gets to choose who will tee off first for their team. The creator of the game will always tee off first for Team Green.

    What are the rules for Alternate Shot?

    Whoever tees off first for the team will tee off on all of the odd numbered holes (1,3,5 etc.). Their partner will tee off on the even numbered holes (2,4,6 etc,).

    ----------------------------------------------------

    Please note: Matches should end at the 18th, if they haven't ended earlier. You should not play Extra Holes. If match is tied after the 18th hole, then the result is A/S, and each team wins 1/2 pt.

    And, please remember to share both 9 scorecards and an exciting match report afterwards!

    ************************************************************

    Singles: will be 9 singles matches, played over all 18 holes at Chambers Bay with the following conditions:

    Chambers Bay :: 2-player Matchplay :: Practice Mode :: Full 18 holes ::  default pins :: White (Medium) tees :: VFast Green Speed :: Low Wind :: Uneven Lies :: 60 second timer

    Please note: Matches should end at the 18th, if they haven't ended earlier. You should not play Extra Holes. If match is tied after 18, then the result is A/S, and each team wins 1/2 pt.

    The line-up for the Singles Matches is as follows (see Availability Chart here):

                   Team USA                 vs                 Team ROW

    A ::        bhoese                         vs                johehejo

    B ::        DaveDwingdale            vs               FairwayRuepel68

    C ::        fredsf                            vs               JoeMaverick

    D ::        papagrasutu                vs                Daskino

    E ::        philbrown4                   vs                pierolitfiba

    F ::        ab1983                         vs               razza31

    G ::       tygerjr                            vs               mkrizan86

    H ::        Wesdogg75                  vs              MatildaIgaly

    I ::         ColumbusStorm            vs              Corwyn

    Here is the Singles Chart in the spreadsheet (and below in pic form, click on pic to see in large view)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    What to do next?

    Send Friend Requests to your playing partner and your opponents for your different matches. Either use this forum thread to confirm your matches via public replies (please quote this post and any relevant replies to make it easier to track, and be as clear as possible about which match!), or do it all via PMs. [Always post here in the thread so we know you are scheduled.]

    This tourney will not work if you rely on just 'catching your partner and opponents green' -- you must schedule a specific time and date, and be there at that time!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    FORMAT / ROUND CONDITIONS / SPECIAL RULES:

    All matches should use the 60 second timer.

    Fourball & Singles series: should be set up in Practice Mode for specific conditions.

    Alt Shot will have to be set up as Scored, with conditions set by the game client.

    Players will keep track of the Fourball Matchplay score as they go via the chat.

    Please note: Matches should end at the 18th, if they haven't ended earlier. You should not play Extra Holes. If match is tied after the 18th hole, then the result is A/S, and each team wins 1/2 pt.

    Please note: Gimme's are NOT allowed in this event. You must put the ball in the hole!  If anyone does take a Gimme, it'll count as a 10 on your card, so... Don't take a Gimme!

    Update: 5/19: Use of FocusBoost is NOT permitted!

    The ROW team (as reigning 'fancy-club' UEL Ryder Cup champions) have the honor, and so should set up the matches and be the first to tee off.

    Please designate one player per match (per team as backup) to capture and share scorecard screenshots in the forum thread. Note that there can be an A/S result, which will mean 1/2 point to each team.

    Just a reminder: The expectation is that all matches will be played: we don't award games based on disconnects.

    If you run into connection issues, please follow the guidelines posted here. Try and finish your match however possible. In this competition, we assume everyone's best intentions and we ignore thrice-disconnects and timeouts. If needed (and possible in the format) concede holes to get back to the same hole and score as soon as you can.

    If there are no-shows, the guidelines tell you what to do.

    Any questions, please ask here!

    If needed, I will add information on suggested overlap times for each group, but would much prefer it if players can take the initiative and figure it out themselves based on the Availability spreadsheet (do also look at the notes at the far right for each player).

    Thank you!

    Corwyn

    <reserved for Screenshot/Scorecard posting requirements/tips>

    Screenshot Requirements:

    We need the Scorecard! For the Fourball series, that will be just the 9-hole scorecard, but when it comes to the AltShot and the Singles, it would be great to have both 9s.

    I'd love to see Stats too... I find they're always fascinating, to give a picture of how everyone achieved their score. But that's not required. Please share them if it's easy though.

    And if you really want to 'tell the story' of your round, do what Russ did here with this wk1 match from an earlier tourney (click on the name or arrow beside each player on the scorecard, and you get the full details of their Fairways/GIR/Putting etc).

    Please have each Playing Pair designate one of them to be the screenshot person. That way there's a backup from the other team. Let's say it's the job of the winning team to post the scorecard, but it's also the responsibility of the screenshot person on the losing team to capture it, and keep it until the result and card have been posted here in the forum thread.

    There is no need for any in-game shots (unless you want to show off a hideous lie!), as all players in the group will be responsible for making sure everyone is using full starter gear, and that you're playing the right conditions. If anything's wrong, try and notice asap and restart!

    Signed up with both links. Since they're the same, I only filled out the "notes and exceptions" part in the "time availability" link ,-)

    So, if not enough really good players sign up, I'll be thrilled to play for the ROW team.

    Cheers

    Signed up if Captain Russ thinks he can use me. I won't be offended if he kicks me out for lack of good plays ;)

    Thanks for doing this Corwyn, that will be fun!!!!

    Great to see several sign-ups already.

    I should also have said that the reason I'm offering myself as ROW captain is that Mags, our current UEL skipper in the fancies, has said he won't have time to participate in this event this month.
