My performance on WGT goes down the drain.

I tossed my 5 year old Dell laptop for a new one. Loaded it with some bells and whistles.

I couldn't wait to see how it would perform on WGT. Downloaded Firefox with same settings as last time.

I'm shocked. I get a massive delay on the meter. Slice city - and I lost 3 premium balls doing it.

Reading this forum makes me think there is nothing I can do.

Anyone running Win7 and Firefox having any issues?

Any hope? Or should I move on and not play this game any more.

GBS, be sure to fully optimize your new laptop for the best game-play.

How thorough were you in setting your machine up? A brand new computer comes packed with all sorts of stuff you won't need and generic settings. Without specs it's hard to see what could be causing you grief but this article will help you. (Scroll down to the msconfig post.) CPU speed, RAM and graphics capabilities all play a part too.

Don't give up. It is very easy to get frustrated trying to get things right. There are some excellent helpers here that will get you there. GL

From later in that thread courtesy of tibbets.......

"There are hosts of different services from programs and toolbars that start up unnecessarily to 'ease access' for the user.  Some examples are Adobe Reader and Acrobat, QuickTime, Java Platform updater, etc.  If your PC was stock bought from a place like Best buy, you'll also have things like a HP Total Care Advisor or the whatever the Dell, Compaq, etc equivalents are.  Some grahpics programs such as anything from Corel will also include some form of monitoring service that starts up.  Microsoft Office products also will have a OSA file that starts up automatically.

All of those listed above can safely be disabled from startup without any issues.

Things you don't want to disable are:  Anything involving Microsoft Windows Operating System, and your sound, video, and printer monitors, and most likely Windows Defender.  If you aren't sure about a particular item in your list, leave it enabled and ask someone in the know what it is."

    Thanks for the quick responses!

I apologize that I didn't give more background.

The very first thing I did when I powered the system on was use decrapifier 2.2.5 to get rid of all junk. I then cleaned the disk and used DiskTrix defrag for drive optimization before loading anything. I fly FSX on this system so I knew what I would need to do to get this system rocking before trying WGT.

By the way, I just tried Firefox 4 (beta 8) with no change in experience.

I also tried game Booster with no improvement.

I also tried Flashblock with no improvement.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks so much.

What version of Flash are you running?  Are your video drivers up to date?

If you have a multi-core processor, using Task Manager,  try setting the affinity for your game browser and flash plug-in to a single CPU.  That helped me a great deal with a new laptop this summer.

andyson - thanks for the response

    I am running Flash 10.1.102.64

Just checked and my video drivers are up to date.

Do you know where I go on TM to make the adjustment you are referring to?

Under the Processes tab right click on the application. The choices pop up.

What did you have before this? The 5 year old Dell, what was the OS and specs?

Thanks for covering for me Jim.

Hey GOBOISESTATE!  By any chance did you play Bethpage Black this morning and leave the wastebaskets full of empty spray paint cans?

Nice job by your Broncos shutting down Utah  in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Andy, I have never done this and am curious to what it achieves.   Also do I just select either CPU for both processes?

    Cheers,
