I am at point now of having to make decisions on new iron set, still have oriiginal set , but am at level37 now and looking at sets of irons. Ping i25 look good.  Meter speed is a consideration for me, though not the only one

What baffles me is when I look at balls to buy, they also have a parameter of meter speed>? How can a ball possibly be related to meter speed, and what does it mean if my irons have a meter speed of 4.5, and the ball I am using has a meter speed of 1.0  Sorry makes no sense to me

Can some explain it to this fairly newbie.  I appreciate it.

What a coincidence, I actually came to ask pretty much the same question.

Is the meter speed attribute on balls proportional to the rating on clubs. For example, I'm used to and quite comfortable with a 4.0 meter speed. My new irons are 3.0 and I'm having some trouble with them, so would using a ball with 1.0 meter speed make it the same as my old 4.0 irons, or are ball attributes on a different "scale" than clubs?

The meter speed of a ball means it will slow your meter down. The higher the number, the slower your meter will be relative to your club speed.

The meter speed for clubs is similar, the higher the number, the slower the meter will be.

Both numbers contribute to the swing speed, probably not in a transparent mathematical way.

If you have not favourite balls yet, try them from the bottom up to find your best match, e.g. Tour-SD, Srixon, higher WGT brand balls, Callaway L33...

thanks, something odd, the email I got of your response has a different 2nd paragraph than here, states the opposite, this was from the email....

"It works in the opposite way to the club meter speed where a higher number means a slower meter speed."

So that seems to say the samething, though you say its opposite, or rather that email says so. Not sure whassup.

In both the ball and the club, is it true that the higher the number, the slower the meter speed?

Just trying to clarify what seems contradictory.  If that is true I guess they are additive, a 3.0 club and a 1.0 ball means a 4.0 meter speed?

Thanks, no idea what happend with the email.
