ct690911: I don't think WGT envisioned this when they designed the Champion tier.
This happened when Pro and Master came out. Then again with Legend and now Champion. People get shuffled up regardless, but the people in the Champion tier at this point are no different than those who were in the Tour Legend tier a few months after its inception. The cycle has repeated four-fold already.
As long as tiers are decided by stroke play "averages" or anything that can be completely manipulated by the user then what's the point. Tiers are just a label now and are only marginally reflective of actual game skill. And that's a shame.
How do you make a system that works in a game where there's no disincentive for dishonesty (e.g. sandbagging)? It's pretty tough to teach a computer how to make a judgement call.
My favorite part of this thread is where someone told someone else to go look at a third person's profile to determine how "good" they were. If I only save my 50's then I'm gonna look pretty good with my 99% drives and 100% greens. That's not the criteria for "good". Play someone for credits a few times if you want to find out how well they can play.
The Virtual Tour leaderboard is probably the most accurate representation of player skill on the entire site, but it's not perfect either.
I guess that's why I don't understand the need for this thread, other than to count the number of people in a tier. The list is just a bunch of meaningless names and numbers and has been since day one.
