After watching FMagnets in a round on Twitch I started to do the same thing. The only downside is any miss in power will be magnified by the scale used. (I know its obvious, but it could be overlooked when thinking about trying this method).
I did notice that the ball seems to move faster when first struck on the 20 ft scale compared to the 10 ft scale. This has caused me to miss a few times by missing the break. It has helped me with the slower meter as far as jerkiness of the meter goes.
