I'll tell you, all of the complaints about WGT being the 'bad guy' here is non-sense.  Every time I have a valid problem, they go out of their way to help me.

Maybe all you complainers work for competitors to WGT?

I agree.  When I submit a ticket( which is hardly ever) I usually get a message from 1 or more mods within a couple hours and message from wgt support team within a day.

I have also always gotten a prompt reply to WGT...over and over I have gotten prompt replies back. But getting a message back saying in so many words "We're so sorry for the problems you are having...please be advised we are working on that (LOLOL!)...in the meantime, clear your cache...". Yeah sure you are working on it...quit yanking our chains, WGT.

Now explain to us again how "all of the complaints about WGT being the 'bad guy' here is non-sense"...HUH? WGT personnel "going out of their way" to reply to complaints is nice and all, but doing that doesn't do a damn thing about ACTUALLY ADDRESSING THE PROBLEMS! Get it?

    WGTChampion:
nothing changed during the downtime last night. While it was 4+ hours, the game didn't change it was just a lot of behind the scenes changes.

I wonder if those background changes involve a certain golf course that could be described as beachy and pebbly.

" Until they get serious . Start spending money in the technical area , start deleting the mega data in the way of abandoned accounts and CC's . Data that is clogging the system , corrupting the features and  responsible for some of the glitches . "

I fully agree, Paul......when I clean dead files and junk from my Comp, it runs better...it only seems logical that if wgt did the same with the plethora of inactive accounts, etc,  their machines would run better also. This shouldn't be that hard to do for them.....but I'm no computer whiz.

It's so much fun trying to figure out who you are quoting sometimes.  ;-)

This time it was pearl jammer (see above), but you have made a good point, I will start including the name of the person I am quoting...only fair to them.

PS.....TY to both you and 11BC2 for your Mil service.  I served 33 years north of the 49th parallel, but have seen a lot of the same sand and misery....gawd, there are some real chit holes on this earth !!

If they've followed even a remotely sane architecture, the player/account database would have zero effect on game performance / delivery. Separate server/s and network altogether, IF as they boast, there's 10 million + registered accounts. Dormant accounts should be flagged and not read with respect to the 'games queries'. One would only hope anyway.

As far as cleaning caches etc, hopefully those routines are running as scheduled events each day.

Then again, the whole game could be sitting on some old beatup 'Blades' in a rusty rack, sitting in the back of a maintenance closet at some sh*tty ISP in SF connected to an old ADSL system that someone forgot to disconnect 10 years ago.... Which would explain many things...

I took 2 years off WGT, and I would have been rather annoyed if my account was deleted due to possible abandonment, I most certainly would not asked to have a new account created if that were the case and start from fresh.

So the question is, how can WGT tell if an account is abandoned from the length of inactivity; well they can't.

I have an account on OpenSim that goes way back, not logged in for 5 years plus, just checked if it's still active and it is, never thought it wouldn't be, you just don't delete accounts, no decent site would do that and WGT does not either.

Score history is deleted to a set point in the past, (e.g) 10Million+ users is a trivial data set with finite score history.

    Cheers
    Ian

Well Ian, your point is well taken for your particular circumstances...but surely you are in a very small minority who take that much time away (years?)  from visiting sites?...or, more likely, I'm just plain addicted......lol
