How about a new 24-hour one-vs-one match play format?

You challenge someone else, and you both have one 24-hour period to complete a round on the exact same course. You can disconnect as many times as you want, as long as you complete the round before the 24-hour period. If you don't complete a round, you automatically lose (if both players don't complete it, then it's an automatic draw - or loss for both players).

The round is scored the exact same way as a match play game. In other words, if Player One scores better on hole one, then he/she is one-up. If Player One is three-up with two holes to play, then the last two holes don't matter.

This would essentially negate the problem of people dropping out, and people getting unfair wins/losses just because of inherent WGT connection issues.

The only problem is that there would be no 'live' element and a lack of social interaction. But some people don't care about that; they just want the competition.

There could be an option to score it based on strokes too. Or a skins option. This can also be generalized to two-vs-two or three-vs-three (and so forth).

A thumbs down from me. I understand your reasoning but the best part of match play, or any multi player game is the interaction.

In all fairness, recently I have only had one multi-player game that failed to complete (out of numerous games) so any time would be better off spend on continuing to improve the stability and bug resolution.

If players want competition there are plenty of avenues via the WGT tournaments and CC tournaments, and like I said the stability has improved (for me anyway) so you can certainly play m/p with few issues.

I vote no too.  If you're playing Match play it's not uncommon to change your shot/approach depending on what kind of shot your opponent hits.

They do need to fix the bug issues with MP though.  It's worse than ever.   Me and all my partners get disconnected all the time as do my friends and their partners.  It was so bad today that after getting booted 2x and wating in the lobby the Tee Off button was broke.  Click, click, click.  Nothing.  So I talked to my P and we decided to forfeit.

As soon as I click foreit the game starts again :D.

This might be a good place to ask this.  Links used to have IP to IP hookups, it's how you found a game. Would that work here? Maybe in the search box have an option to connect to a specific IP?

Would you not need the game loaded on your computer for that to work?

I'd rather see the Best Ball format added personally.  Would have to be 2 man teams like in Alt/shot.

Yes - Best ball could be fun. I vote for that.

    But not for 24h match.

This is what I'm not sure of. My thinking was that the way it is now, you load the course when the host kicks off. That shouldn't change.

In AS, for instance, to get into the game you'd need to have the host's IP address. Once the host tees off, the course loads for everybody.

I believe the host is connected to a game server and when you except the invite, you connect to the same one. Our connection to that server is where we are susceptible to a disconnection if our route there is not optimized.

Yes but what if the host also served as the connection to the other 3. You'd be connecting to the IP that is connected to the server.
