Why does my 9 foot putt default to a 20 foot meter, instead of the 10 foot meter?

Why does my 19 foot putt default to a 50 foot meter, instead of the 20 foot meter?

I almost always catch this in time, but when I don't, grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Seems like someone had a little trouble with basic math...

    Hi Dreamweaver70,

Being this close to the max swing distance of a putter may give you a longer meter to let you account for elevation changes. Trying to make a 9 ft putt with a 10 ft meter when you are on a 4 inch incline may not get you there, which is why a longer meter may be given.

    All the Best,

Any putt that would make me go more than half way on the putter scale, I use the next scale up. I have the L94 Method, if I have a 7 foot putt, I use the 20 foot scale. 1) less travel for the meter to the "ding".  2) less travel = smoother meter. Takes a little time to get use to but it works.

A lot of players use the next meter up. If I have a 9ft putt then I choose the next meter and hit it 4.5. Less chance of a meter skip and it's easier to judge when to click.

    +1

The optimum power is 20% to 50%     that way the swing meter is slower as it reaches the DING, and less time swinging as pointed out reduces the chances of skips & jumps. Sounds to me like you are being given good advice by your caddy - and  ignoring it.   You haven't been taking lessons from Robert Allenby by any chance have you?

matter of opinion i personally find it much easier to judge when to hit for example a 9 foot putt on a 15 foot meter than on a 30 foot meter

im not saying you are wrong just that different things work for different people

Courtney said a lot of players, not all players. Most of the better players and putters use the next scale up. I find that the meter is smoother, (less travel to the ding) and it seems to hit the ball softer, (I don't roll past the hole very far on a miss),

I personally like to keep the travel on the putter meter as short as possible,,it makes it much easier for me to ding,,i use a putter with the 10,20,50,100 etc,scale...i only use the 10ft scale on puts less than 5ft,,i use the 20ft scale for puts of 5ft,,i use the 50 scale for putts up to 15ft,,putts of 20ft or more i use the 100ft scale,,,,,works for me...
