Gimme's should not be allowed when the shot is to win a hole in the above competitions.

To win a hole, you should HAVE to hole out.

This makes no sense at all. You're saying you don't want your OP to concede a putt to you that would win the hole? You certainly don't have to concede theirs so what's your point?

Your opponent conceding the putt and you taking a gimme to win a hole are 2 different things.

I have never seen the gimme option in a multiplayer match and don't believe there is one.

It's available in practice games, stroke and matches, at different distances according to the player's tier, and AFAIK in rated matches as well, for low tiers.

Sadly, no FAQ entry, so it stays unclear if it costs anything.

Do you know this for a fact? The only MP games I play are Skins once in a while and an occasional MP 1 on 1 so I wouldn't know.  I have never seen the option to take a gimme other than in practice mode. Maybe Steve can enlighten us.

Found this in another gimmie thread

    hi

lower levels have different rules, such as hacks, which may allow them to get a gimme from 7ft.  hack level is designed to introduce you to the game.

If the OP is correct I agree that no one of any tier should be allowed to take a gimme to win a hole. If the opponent want to concede the putt that's perfectly fine.

That's what I heard here, partly from the mods.

As Zio quoted, the distance is 7 ft for Hacks (?and Amateurs?), applicable in practice as well as in ranked and rated games. Dunno about Skins.

For higher tiers, it's from inside 2 ft, only in practice games.

It may seem unfair in games against higher tiers, but for legit beginners it may be very difficult to come into the 7 ft range - thus it's just a li'l help. Different for those "talented" guys but they act illegally anyway.

Thanks. This is what I thought, I just didn't know about the lower tiers. Heh, wasn't any such thing when I was a TP.  :-)
