Same here. I understand that the fringe should have a (very ?) slow speed, but putts not moving is just not possible.

Adjust your putting scales to a higher value fellas, and you won't whiff your fringe putts. My caddie defaults to a 90 putting scale on fringe putts, with the Daytona putter. Changing the putting scale to the correct feet of power is going to cause a whiff every-time.

There's nothing to argue either. If you use a higher putting scale (60 minimum), you'll never whiff a fringe putt again. There's nothing to fix IMO.

Richard, I know we have had our differences in the past, but there is nothing to fix? You want me to use a 90ft scale on a putt at Oakmont that requires 7ft. of power and 2ft. downhill? Absurd, WGT knows this is totally screwed up. My guess is they can't fix it. If I do use this method you suggest, yea i might never whiff again, but I most certainly won't get it close like I should be able to do. JB

I've tried Richards method,  you still whiff if you use too little power, no merit to it.

QFT... you get in a position on the fringe (Oakmont, tournament grees esp.) where you are close to the hole, say under 15 feet, and it's more than a few inches downhill, there is no scale that will not whiff because you have to use sooo little power to pace it to the hole.

So your choices are... too much power and pray it hits the pin, or chip...... and pray it hits the pin..... not much of a choice is it?  Oakmont #2 and Oakmont #5(par 3?) come to mind immediately.

Maybe just a little off track here, but still has to do with the fringe areas. I have noticed that when ever there is a pin placed near the edge of the green like Bethpage #2 and #9 for example, my shot will sometimes land on the fringe in front then shoot all of the way across the green into the rough. They act as though they are painted green concrete swales. Just weird so I try to avoid them, any thoughts or is it just me?

That probably has more to do with trajectory of shot Vs. elevation of the green and how the ball lands compared to your elevation... more than it does with the hardness or softness of the fringe.

Or even more frustrating when chips/pitches/flops stop dead as if there is some kinda force field. Maybe Yancy's paranormal folks should pursue this matter...
