Ok, since WGT does not plan to give us a free rental day or weekend soon, I would like to ask you, which set would be better as an upgrade.

Reading the stats, the Nikes look better, more distance and greater spin. But what about the reliability - distance wise? And what about meter speed? One comment indicated that they swing faster than their rated 3.5 speed.

I must admit I played with the G25 L59 during a free rental weekend (back when they were G20 I believe) and, as everyone agrees here, they were simply superb irons. And for that reason the G25 L83 have a good chance to compete with the Nikes for a future place in my bag.

You are currently using the old G10 irons...so I would think either set would be a big improvement. I owned the Nike Forged irons, before I upgraded to the Vapor irons. I found them to be excellent clubs. I have never played with the Ping G25 set.  Is there a huge difference in price?, you didn't mention that in your post.

Both are good but the Nikes are much better.

OK...I had time to compare the sets...they are the same price. I agree with Paul. I would go with the Nike set...they have better specs on precision and spin, and are equal in the other categories.

..you probably know this, but you are going to have to upgrade other clubs as well..wedges for sure.

The L85 Nikes are excellent, used them up to L98 and have only just got the L97.

Bollin won 1  Open and came close to another with them irons:) I wish we could go back to them clubs as the no.1 irons and see who can really plot their way round and post a score like the top players did with them irons. Wasn't a game of darts then:) Also the best ball out then was , i think the GI2-SD2 Balls

Before using the Nike irons (L85), I owned the Ping irons (L59). I didn't have any issues going from the Pings to the Nikes. I find the meter to be smooth, requiring very little adjustment period from the Pings. And if I recall correctly, I did try the Ping L83 irons on a free trial. I dont' recall liking them all that much. But I love the Nike L85 irons.

As far as distance, overall, they're very reliable. My only quibble is with the 8-iron. It's rated at 145 yards. For me, it seems to be more like 150.

    Plus 2!!!

But you used good balls, I was rolling up the BXD;s...lol!

Anyone recall how the game was played before Callaways?

Tess does, those were the best players here on WGT...Tess included...okay, back to what is better...I digress...

In them days we had to really know how far certain shots would roll after landing. And that would depend on the green you was hitting into so you had to know that also. Some shots you could stop dead  weight with wind against.  I think infinito used BXD  Balls then too. If it wasn't him it was another top player at that time. Icon and myself used to have so many MP battles with our ping raps and gi0sd balls lol

For me those were the best days here because the expectancy level was low. If you scored 7 under in single play  for 9 holes you were over the moon. Now the expectancy level is much higher because irons cost a lot more and offer you almost as much as Merlin's  wand can!  More players get dis-gruntled now because they expect to score low.
