Average....Scoring

  Does this sound about right???

   

  I had an average of 62.26 then played an 18hole St Andrews and shot -11 and my average only went down to 62.23

  I would have thought the average of 62.26 + 61 = 61.63

  It depends on how rounds you have played in the tier that you are in. If it is a lot then it will take score a lot more below your average than just a little over 1 stroke to drop your average a lot. And if it is just a few then a 1 round  1 stroke lower than your average will lower your average more.

  Think of it this way...your average now is more a measurement of potential than a true average.  In the past, when it was more of a true average, it measured the best 10 of the past 14 rated rounds to come up with our number.  My suggestion is to play your best, play all the courses, and post all your scores...then you'll be in the tier that is best for you...not the tier you would like to be in.

  TBE - If you had only played one round in your current tier, then that would be right, however if you have played more, this happens:

  64, 64, 62, 62, 62, 62, 62, 62, 61, 62

  The above gives an average of 62.30. Add a 61 in to it, and the average goes to 62.18

  As you have played more than the above, the average score is affected even less (hence why moving up tiers is so difficult under this new system - you have to play well many times before you're ranked with the top boys)

  I believe For Masters/ Tour Masters it averages the best 40 games for your current tier.

   For every stroke you knock off  of your best 40 total , 0.025 rounded to 0.03 (0.02 next time) is subtracted from your average.

  Your best 40 can be both 18 hole scores and 9 hole scores (doubled).

   Seems to be less games averaged for Pro tiers.

  Yeah, or a calculator on my pc :D

  Yep, 40 is right for masters (also I think 40 is the min games before u can move up a tier).

  I now know the average score and number of rounds needed for Master: An average of 67 or below and 40 ranked rounds as after a 32 on St Andrews front 9 I was bumped to Master. DAMMIT!

  There's also a percentage factor in there somewhere...

  I/e yesterday I started off with a 64 aveage...shot a 32 on 9 at BPB and average went to 63.95....guess what I am saying is it's not purely adding numbers and dividing.

  If your 64 (32 doubled) replaced a 66 or 33 (doubled) , your average would go down 0.05 as yours did MB.
