WGT and TOPGOLF are now one!

  In trying to understand possibilities of this merger, I would like to float a scenario by you to see if it's even feasible-playing WGT golf on WGT courses AT a TG location using your own clubs! Over the top cool, IMO.

  What my layman's way of thinking is, you have an APP on your mobile device that interfaces with TG's in-house digital system. You load the course like you were going to play and then the interface shows you where you have to hit the ball on their range. Results are translated on your mobile device and you see your shot happen in the game on your mobile device!

  I could see it happening.  :-)

  I think what Champ means is that we are still ironing out details for whats going to be planned for long term as the Topgolf's expertise in a physical game is different than a virtual one. I for one am excited, Topgolfs locations look like a lot of fun and cant wait until they bring one a little closer to home. :)

  Im not excited, i could care less about them adding their silly arcade games here, or paying $45 an hour to hit real balls.

  I can see them adding their $5 membership fee to play here as well.

  14 million users on this site, and TopGolf cant have someone post anything about their plans?

    Iam glad that you are EXCITED to have a closer location of Topgolfs!!!   But we are in WGT’s forum and We the  WGT players are EXCITED to know what is the plan of TOPGOLF for WGT?  Its that to much to ask? This thread have over 11 pages and there is NO 1 statement about the future of this game.

  My opinion for whatever it is worth....

  TopGolf is a fairly capital hungry company, they are opening locations all over and each location would have a fairly substantial capital investment to open and a payback that could be 10 years.   I don't see TopGolf as a vehicle to dump money into WGT.   I don't see WGT as the cash cow that some people seem to think that it is either.   That being said I think this was a merger of convenience not a huge cash benefit for either side.

  I have a few of the TopGolf sites within 4 hours of me, haven't had a chance to check one of them out but I will the next time I head to the Dallas area.  From reading and viewing their site, you can't equate it to a driving range.

  They offer a full range of food and drinks, like an unscale sports bar.  They have golf played via a driving range in which you compete for closest to the hole, etc. using their balls embedded with a chip.  I played a few times at a place called Target Golf years ago that used this.  It was fun and fairly cheap there.

  Target Golf has other games but it appears the big sale is to take a group of 5 or 6 golfers and non golfers, rent out a driving area and have a party and play.  It appears very expensive unless you have a group like I mentioned that can share the cost, don't think it is a place you go by yourself to rent a booth for 2 hours.

  I doubt that other than some cross over allowing members of each group discounts, that we will see much that matters to us.

  What i can see happening Corey is this. Erin Hills will be the last real golf course built. Top golf will introduce new clubs  for their freshly built online driving range that will have prizes for hole in ones and free balls for  other achievements on the range, which can be redeemed at their stores. The  virtual driving range will be amazing! tempting the wgt community to try their luck. Balls will cost credits of course . Over time i can see them doing away with ready goes and credits all together!  wgt players will win vouchers for their real driving ranges not credits in wgt. I might be wrong , but that;s where i see this merger going.

  I find this aspect disturbing.

  In the last year I have taken over two smaller companies, with the vision of growth, The first thing I did was speak to the incumbent staff, the second was to visit the clients to assure them of the plan, service levels and vision for the future.

  For no-one to come on here from Top Golf and give any assurance of what is happening, and not to share their vision is worrying, and seems to have the same shroud of secrecy Chad and Co had.

  We talking about to very different things: TopGolf = virtual reality golf and WGT = internet golf game and now WGT with the SkyTrak.

  No matter how much we discuss about the benefits of the merging or WGT belonging now to TopGolf, I do not see why the merging would give THIS game we play HERE any benefit.

  It does sound like an awesome idea and I would really like to see something like this happen. Feasible, yes. Will it happen? Still to early to tell. Also, if it was on an in-game course, putting would be a hurdle.

  Its still really early in the merger so not much has been announced. For WGT Erin Hills is in pre-production, so a new course is in the works as well as Topgolfs driving range experience for mobile. If you had to put a plan that Topgolf has for WGT, I would say it would be to continue to help the WGT platform grow and add new content.

  I personally think that there is a lot of wasted intelligent effort being used to what end?  As it appears, and has been voiced by the staff of WGT, WGT is to survive.  How and what it will be in the future is out of our hands.

  Idle speculation is so useless if you can not control the outcome.

  See what happens and take appropriate action at that time.

  I am one of those who can not play a real course any longer, so if WGT fails or goes away I will replace it if I can, if not-----?  My Nickle
