My suggestion would be to have a Country Club group chat system. As in other multi-player games where you have clubs/clans/guilds, the group chat plays an important part of the online experience.

It would be great if you were logged into a CC chat as soon as you start the game client, and that it would be accessible even while playing single/multi player rounds, such as a separate group chat tab.

I know there are the CC forums for communication with other CC members, but that format is not as interactive as a chat system would be.

They have declined that wish long ago, pointing to external means like IRC, Skype, Teamspeak...

Follow Tool Time's slogan: "Do It Yourself"!

I know those tools work, but they are external to WGT and would require members to switch windows if using a text chat software. If a CC chat was available similar to the chat system that is already in place for a multi player rounds then it would be self contained within the game without the need to look at an external window to communicate with other CC members.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like that too but unfortunately I don't see it happening. Even if it was implemented, it would probably be within the CC home page so its readily available without having to launch the game client, much like the CC forums which would still require window switching.

Personally when gaming I use a program called Discord. Its free, has a physical program and web client and its like Teamspeak and Skype had a baby. I went with it because you can create rooms and it has both chat and voice and I don't have to be in game to communicate with my squad. Just my personal preference. :)

You could create a basic page of your generic template and instead embed a web-based IRC client that's pointed to #WGT on the Gamesurge IRC network.  We've only been there in an unofficial capacity for 8 years now.  We even hosted a few "Chat w/ MisterWGT" sessions a few years back.

Gamesurge masks hostnames and IP so privacy is assured.  If you don't put the friends list on the page it should run with little expense to the user.  They can chat with their club mates and play simultaneously.

Once connected to the 'hub' channel, people can easily jump off into their own chat rooms, password protected if they like, and/or stay in the 'lobby'.  It is basic group chat with a 1-on-1 private chat feature. No voice, since not everyone is comfortable with that.

Take a generic page (like the replay landing page), remove the "SHOW REPLAY" part, and drop in the iFrame provided below.  Congrats, you now have a user-driven, privacy protected, integrated chat medium at literally no expense to WGT.  You can even claim "Unofficial" and stay hands off.

You can't ignore the free ad revenue can you? =)

    <iframe src="https://webchat.gamesurge.net/?channels=WGT" width="X" height="Y"></iframe>

    Set X and Y.  I might recommend 1024 x 768.

    Done and done.

    And my shameless plug: https://gamesurge.net/chat/wgt/
