I have an up and coming CC. I also have a great activities director who sets up plenty tourneys challenges for the club. I need some advice to help get my members to participate! I personally am not independently wealthy so I can't buy clubs or balls  as prizes or incentive

.Any ideas to help us out would be apreciated before I lose my activities director..HELP!

    A few ideas:

    1) Clean out the membership roles of those no longer playing WGT. 52 of your members have not played in 2016.  Remove them so you know who you are trying to work with.

    2) Find out what the remaining members of the CC would like to keep that core group motivated. They, not the ones that have not played in a year are the ones that matter.

    3) You do not have any top tier members so this one might be hard to accomplish, but most players will stay motivated if they feel they are improving.  If you had even one Legend that wanted to mentor the newer lower tier players that could help. Absent that find good tips and advice on the main forums and hot link the posts in your CC Forum.

    4) There are some trophies you can put members names on that are as much of a reward as credits or sleeves of balls. Develop some recognition program - like most CC Tournaments played each month, most improved player of the month, shot of the month or whatever you like.

    5) Start some tournaments that are ongoing that one has to compete in weekly to come out on top - you know tournaments that are "must play" not just another CC Tournament.

    6) Have some Fun. Have tournaments where members get a good laugh or two - like irons only or starter club tournaments in Match Play. You could have a beat the Owner Tournament or whatever.  Get creative.

    7) Liven up your CC Forum!  Last post in the CC Forum is now a month old. A number of new members joined in that month and there was not even one welcome message to them. The CC Forum should be the first place every member wants to go to when they log into WGT.

    8) Lead by example, if you play nothing but CC Tournaments every day - members will follow suit. If you just go out and play your own single play match - they will follow suit.

Finally, being the owner of a CC is a full time commitment, if you do not have 2 - 3 hours a day to give to being an owner (note I said being an owner not playing WGT) then it is going to be a long hard road to develop a sense of belonging to the CC among its members.

Fred...you have almost 80 members, so your CC seems to be doing well in numbers ...if it gets too large, it also gets difficult to manage. Try to recruit quality over quantity...it always pays off in the end. To wit: vet them as best you can before accepting them into your CC.

I agree with everything Edward outlined in his post to you. It is a great example of helping one another. He is currently the owner of a long established and respected CC, and has taken great pains to outline a plan for you moving forward...I would take his advice in full.

As an aside, many who occasionaly opine in the forum use their rare "contributions" to state how this is some kind of dog eat dog environment. While heated debates do occur, there are tremendous examples of experienced players and CC owners providing sage advice to those asking legitimate questions in (hopefully) a polite manner.

This thread is certainly an example of that.

There are good advice Ed gave you & he took the time to check you and your CC out.

    -->  so this means something!

Now you should ask yourself what can YOU do to keep your CC ongoing in the right direction.  (u have adv. above up to you to use them all or step by step)

Helpers are always a good choice in a CC and those are the one which whom you should have a good trust.  Get to know them (the helpers) and your members in general.

Be friends with them and Welcome each of them who join in. If you don't have the time for it then who. An other member who is in charge of welcoming them. Might be but don't forget who is the CC owner.

You can't be the 1 doing everything and you seem to have helpers so spread the knowledge and let your members know.

Keep track of your members as they are who make your CC and of course YOURSELF.

Good continuation and keep having FUN!

PS: you can trust Ed (I know him QWasaF)

Very good suggestions here. As I just took over ownership of my club a month or so ago, I'm going to implement some of Ed's suggestions. As we (and I suppose most clubs) have a lot of players on the rolls that haven't played in months, I just emailed our membership that I'm going to purge the rolls of inactive members on March 1. It will be interesting to see what response (if any) I get.

We PM warnings to inactive players after 3 months...boot them after 6 months (unless provided with valid reasons why they are inactive).

As far as the OP's query about attracting members to tournaments...we had a wealthy member in our CC (gone from wgt now...at least under that name) who would routinely put up big prizes to attract people to tournaments...once offering US$1000 in prizes!!  Additionally, this person would post on every member's wall about the tournament, dates, prizes etc. The people who typically played in all CC tournaments were the only ones to show up. So, I guess I'm saying that rich prizes don't seem to be the answer...at least they weren't in our case.

It's a tough nut to crack for most CCs....so, good luck.

You probably wont get a response.

Cut club down to actives, granted folk have holidays or just have a break but generally if you have a healthy forum, then they will advise you anyway.

We dont really suffer the next point, as we keep our membership numbers to around  130, but recently we have had 31great active players come in since turn of year and around 20 have been let go.

And that point is folks who play WGT every day, but never enter club comps or use forum, they are let go, as really not contributing anything to club leagues or general friendliness.

Friendly and active like a real golf club, thats what should be looked for. We only ask 3 club comps a month to show you are interested, of course not many only do that, but they can if wish.

Hence our club is very healthy at present, and has been for a long time now.

    Good luck.

It puzzles me why some folk want to be apart of a CC, when they contribute sweet FA to clubs they ask to join.
