    Howzit everyone

So I'm wondering, now that I have reached level 85, whether I should get the NIKE VR Forged Iron Set (L85+)?

It appears (on paper) to be a clear advantage over my existing iron set (Ping G25 Level 59+).

Or should I just hang on a bit, and learn how to actually play approach shots properly?

I'm not looking for a magic bullet, just want to make sure I'm making the right decisions.

    All opinions welcome.

    Cheers,

    Peter

The lvl 85 Nike VR's are a giant step up from the Ping's.  You will find that the irons hold the greens much better.  I found they really changed my game when I went to them.  If you search the forums you will find a lot of threads about comparing the clubs.

Hi Peter...congrats on level 85. I have never played the Ping 25's, but I did use the Nike Forged for quite a while before finally getting the Vapors. I agree with Phred. The Nike irons are excellent. TBH, I could have easily stayed with the Forged irons, but am one of those people who like the new shiny toy...lol

...I now find with equipment, (I am level 105), that the top tier stuff is all good...its like comparing a BMW to a Lexus to an Audi to a Benz...boils down to personal preference.

As a default, you can rent them for a day and see if it makes that much of a difference to your game, to merit the price.

    cheers,

    ct

    Thanks phred952 & Colin

Think I'll take your advice and go for the irons.

    Thanks.

    No......stick with the L59 G's...

The buy was the L75 blade set or the L79 Bladz set...

Tough out the next 5 levels and get the L90 TM..

The 3i in the L85 Nike set will forever haunt you and you will end up disappointed for many, many  levels or  ( depending on budget )..

    Buying the L90 TM's !!

Andy is right that the TM Rsi'2s @ lvl 90 are much better than the lvl 85 nikes.  I have both, but for me sometimes I have a meter issue with the 3.0 speed of the Tm's vs the 3.5 speed of the nikes.  Knowing that was a problem i have, I decided to keep both sets of clubs.  it is my problem, not a problem with the clubs.  Reaction time slows down as we age.  A sad but true fact of life.

It will take you awhile to get to lvl 90. The difference is almost 189,00 XP's.  At 2000 points per day that over over 3 months.  I have no regrets about getting the Nikes first, then buying the TM's also.

Ya right too Red...didn't take into account the meter speed...

You can have a cigarette after release with the G's  ;-) 4.0 ?

Still...age included...WE get used to what we do, so probably you chopping and changing from one set to another will not help the reaction times..imo

    Why I think the L75 / 79 clubs would've been a good interim set...for OP

Used the old L74 Burners myself to get to Legend.....crazy meter speed , on a par with the old R11s and less forgiveness...

Every iron set after that was just ' gravy ' :-)

Point being I suppose is......the easy option will not always afford the best results come judgement day ?

    ;-0

If the meter isn't an issue, you could wait for the L90 TMs. But I have to tell, having played with G20s, L85 Nikes and L90 TMs, that I got so used to the Nikes, I owned TMs for 3 months before I actually started using them in credit rounds. And I will probably forever still use the Nikes on Cong B9 and Bandon B9, cause I like them better for those 2 courses.

On the other hand, I'd personally recomend the Nikes. Cause the difference in spin between G25s and TMs is huge and will throw your yardage off completely. With moderate to heavy side wind and full bs, the difference in direction could be over 5 yards right or left from what you're used to now. The same goes for distance with either head or tail wind. Nikes won't be as drastic, but still with more than enough stopping power, forgiveness and accuracy.

    Hey Andy,

I agree that going back and forth between the 2 sets would make the problem worse.  What I did was go back to the Nikes for about 3 to 4 weeks.  The swing timing problem had gotten so bad that I might as well have covered up the ding, as I never hit it.

Also I was consistently "inconsistent".  Early on one shot, late the next.  After reading more in the Forum I bought a wired USB mouse to get away from any wireless lag.

I have no way to prove it, but I felt that the claimed ball meter speeds were a bit different.  For example the Cally LVL33 and the WGT G13-S both show a meter speed of 2.5.  But the WGT G13-S seemed just a little bit slower.  And I found that the same ball seemed a little bit faster on meter speed after entering a tournament compared to playing a hole or 2 on the same course to warm up.

Of course it could be my tin foil hat is just a little tight.  Those were the perceptions I had at the time.  Who knows for sure.

    Jeff
