EasyEdward,
I can't speak about what any other members of SEL may have done in reaction to the results of another match or other experiences in this friendly CC matchup. What I can speak to about them is that they have always been very supportive and encouraging to me and the other members of the club. This is a great group of guys and gals - I am proud to be a member of the SEL club.
Now - regarding my match with Karen/KDavenport2. Let's clear the air about that just a little bit. When I found out she was my opponent I sent a friend request and she accepted within 24 hours. I then saw her online a few times in the early AM hours (we are in the same time zone - CST). I tried sending her a message about setting up the match but got no response. I waited a couple of days, and tried again - no response. I waited a couple of days, and posted on her wall asking about setting up the match. Again - no response. I saw her online and sent a message asking if she wanted to play then - no answer.
After two "no answers" I let NICO know and he suggested the wall post. After that did not work, he reached out to your club (not sure who) and LadyChipper got involved as a go between for communications because Karen was not getting any WGT messages with a reason that WGT knew about the problem and was working on it. I thought whatever -- perhaps something will get done to get it scheduled. Marion/LC came back with a couple of suggested game times that I could not make because of family plans. I said I could play anytime on Monday since I was working from home that day (I have no access to WGT during US business hours due to corporate firewalls) and could use my home PC. Back and forth, we agreed on 1:00 PM Monday. I was online and waiting. Karen didn't show, and I sent Marion a message saying that I would stay on until 1:30. Karen finally got online at 1:31 and I sent the invite. She accepted and apologized for being late, saying it was because "it took a long time for WGT to reboot". An odd statement.
Here is how the match went:
#1 -- Halved with Pars
#2 - Karen went +1 -- won with conceded par putt after she conceded my bogey putt
#3 - I won hole AS again -- don't remember our scores
#4 -- Halved hole with bogeys
#5 - Halved hole with pars
#6 -- Halved hole with birdies
#7 - Halved hole with bogeys. Still AS
#8 - I won with a birdie -- +1
#9 -- Halved hole with Birdies
#10 - I put my tee shot about 5 feet from hole, she put hers in the water and conceded the hole -- now I'm +2
#11 -- Halved hole with bogeys
#12 - I won with birdie -- now +3
#13 -- I won with birdie -- now +4 with 5 to go
She makes a comment about not liking the speed of the greens (set by default at 12). I try to explain it is a default setting and she says she is going to call someone. Timer is running, so I tee off on 14.
She disconnects -- yes for the third time, I was counting. Of course I get message that she has forfeited game.
I sent a message to LadyChipper AND Nico explaining what happened and asking what could be done. I said I would be willing to restart and would prefer that the match be settled on the course. I saw Karen online, and sent 2 different invites 10 minutes apart. Declined. There was a little back and forth with LadyChipper, one had a request from Karen that the shot timer be 90 seconds instead of 60 -- I replied that would not be a problem. That was yesterday afternoon. Got a message today from Marion that she had not heard back from Karen.
This is a game and should be fun. In one of her messages, Marion tried to explain that Karen was a relatively new Legend and wasn't used to the new level yet. I can relate to that if it is indeed true -- Friday marks my third week at the Legend level. I got a little curious. It seems Karen really prefers to play Alternate shot matches -- she plays at least three every morning and has had a great deal of success doing it. I didn't see when she got to Legend, but it seems that inexperience doesn't really stand up based on what else I saw.
It's really too bad that the match had to end that way.
