Again, expert putters Phil Mickelson & Zach Johnson have done it, nice and clean, in different circumstances..

    - but it would be safe to say that it would be best not to do it if you're terrible at using a wedge on the green.

Well and then there are those that accidently overputted there 2 footer by about 98 yard and then fighting there emotions lean a little to hard on there putter and it happends to break in two.

well then there is no other choice but to use on of the other clubs is there?

This actually happend, saw a utube video of a guy in competition break his putter and was forced to use his 7 iron to putt for the remaining round, lol

how about when someone is a few inches from the hole and they use a driver to knock it in?

I think people were also getting the 'Bottom of the Cup' award more times this way because they didn't use the putter.

Putter or wedge, I'd like to master them both.

Actually it was the choke relief  award. Make par or better after a drive of less than 100 yards.  The game saw that few inch putt hit with the driver as a drive of less than 100 yards.

No one does it when there's a putt on. Only time they use a wedge is if there's an obstacle in the way ala Riviera #6. Either way if someone references Mickelson as the reason for using wedges on the green, they might also want to use the chip shot a lot more ;)

Anybody objecting to usage of wedges on the greens in this game is blind to the following:

    - it's in accord with the Rules of Golf,

    - it's a valid option of this computer game, thus it's according to their "local" rules,
(they even took away the spin option but left the shot untouched)

    - it doesn't damage the greens, doesn't even leave any mark on them (opposite to shots form outside), so the only factual objection from RL is void.

In response for the growing concern over a major issue, a group has been formed to combat the indecency. P.E.T.G, People for The Ethical Treatment of Greens has been formed to prevent the mutilitation and defamation of Green surfaces everywhere. By encouraging more use of the proper tools, a.k.a  The Putter, and verbally flogging the sinister utilization of any bladed club.

This behavior is contributing to the lack of sleep of greenskeepers everywhere, and tearing up the hallowed surfaces on which we roll. Please join us in the movement to end this unethical and harmful practice.                    Sincerely  P.E.T.G

Indeed, it is. It's also a gamer move that makes a mockery of the game.

Nope. It's a valid golfer's option as well. You all will have to accept it.

I guess what the OP is trying to hear comments of the issue here in WGT.

Allowed in reality and allowed here too .....unfortunately.

There are only a couple of spots in all WGT courses where you have fairway or rough in your putting line, St. Andrews 17 and somewhere in Merion if I remember well. I agree it is ok to punch, however the chance to find yourself in such situation is 1 in a million......BUT there are players who punch ½ of their putts no matter how far or close they are to the pin....and that annoys me the hell!!, why not practicing the putt instead?.

A champion un-friend me because I ask him to stop punching most of his putts (he was punching all his up hill putts). Those are the people who would do anything, absolutely anything to get fantastic scores...even using cheats.

Putt all the time, it makes you a better player and in my eyes a more fair player too.
