I don't do it but..Its legal in this game and in real golf.  I don't see a problem with it. Heck, Ive seen some WGT players putt with driver.  I don't do that either but ...SO WHAT ??

how about when someone is a few inches from the hole and they use a driver to knock it in?

    That's easy:

If they hit the hole, the ball is in. If they don't, they have to try again.

I think people were also getting the 'Bottom of the Cup' award more times this way because they didn't use the putter.

Putter or wedge, I'd like to master them both.

Here are some of the numbers for wedges on green:

Up untill 23 feet use the pitchshot, from 24 to 95 feet use full shot type.

Rules: use it when green is curly at the start of the putt and relative flat near the hole. Never on bendy downhillers.

Pitches 17Y pitcher greenspeed 13 and 10 respectively (flat green, no wind):

    50% = 8 feet, sp10=7 feet

    60%= 11 feet,  sp10=10 feet

    70%=  13 feet,  sp10=12 feet

    80%= 16 feet, sp10=14 feet

Full shot type 60Y wedge (flat green, no wind):

    40% = 28 feet sp13, 26 feet sp10

    50% = 37 feet sp13, 36 feet sp10

    60%= 49 feet sp13, 48 feet sp10

Full shot type is VERY VERY useful from ranges above 30 feet. You will see an increase at around 500% in holed putts from that distance. Wind has a minor effect. Elevation: do NOT land uphill and especially not downhill as distances then become unpredictible. Elevation rules are much like putting. The slower the green, the more advantage this method gives.

Generally about these 2 shot types: its only needed to read the last third of the putting line instead of the entire putting line. It makes it quite easy.

I would also like to recommend Tekoma's putting techniques for normal putting. That works also.

Thanks Duff. This like a new toy for me to play with. I tried it years ago but had zero success with it, but I was using lousy wedges then. I suspect the best wedges make this something I may love. Thanks

Wow. That's some dedicated practice, getting those numbers. I'm not sure I get why but whatever works, I suppose. Kinda makes a mockery of the game, though.

TBH, there are certain places where a full shot on the green actually is the best option. The Road Hole, short but on the green and facing that big slope and break is one. The putt isn't that bad if you know it but that takes a while to figure out. (It helps that that putt is a CTTH putt.)

I personally putt everything on the green but that's just my preference. Like I said, whatever works.  :-)

For the sake of tradition I view wedging on the green as something that preys against the normal etiquette and standard ethics that are held dear to the heart of every Gentleman and Gentlewoman properly trained in Golf. It is a bit like club-throwing: no one from either hemisphere has ever been good enough to throw a club. And then I recall my own meticulous and gentle love I give to all ballmarks. Those of the lazy others along with my own. It was all part of my Father's lessons. But, it doesn't exist here, so I may bend a little and lay blame to my crappy putting...which would be true.

I remember when I first started playing, that using backspin on the green was also an available option. It certainly helped. WGT has since removed that (no idea why, as the PGA Pros who use wedges on the green can apply bs)

    c'est la vie
