No one does it when there's a putt on. Only time they use a wedge is if there's an obstacle in the way ala Riviera #6. Either way if someone references Mickelson as the reason for using wedges on the green, they might also want to use the chip shot a lot more ;)

    No one in general?

Is there an obstacle here? I'm not completely sure.

    borntobesting:

Actually it was the choke relief  award. Make par or better after a drive of less than 100 yards.  The game saw that few inch putt hit with the driver as a drive of less than 100 yards.

oh wow. TY  So, is it a certainty that putting on WGT w/ a non-driver does count as a putt?  I never confirmed.

    edit:

Currently, a putt with a Cleveland exclusively does count as a putt on WGT. That I just confirmed.

    Depends where you look!

On the scorecard, only putts with putter(!), starting from the green(!), will count, while in the game stats, anything with putter AND anything on the green do count.

Edit: Oops, I mixed it up:

On the scorecard, anything with putter AND anything on the green do count,
while in the game stats, only putts with putter(!), starting from the green(!), will count,

Putts from the fringe are the most usual source of discrepancy AFAIK.

Just now, on my practice hole scorecard, hits starting on the green w/ driver and/or 3W and/or irons are counting as putts. Is it different on your side? Interesting.

Restarts in unlimited tournaments, now that makes a mockery of the game. j/k IDGAS

FAIK maybe it's common practice IRL. I've done it here on WGT, natch.

Back in the days of old, when they used sand mounds for tees, they also did not use ball markers,if you were behind another players ball on the green that is blocking your path they chipped over the opponents ball.

I watched a PGA pro (might have been Johnson or DiMarco) use his wedge on the green against Woods in a match...no obstacle..just a steep uphill putt and the player was better with a wedge than a putter...Woods was duly impressed with the result...it's clearly legal. What I don't understand is why WGT removed the backspin option?, when BS is also clearly legal (within the PGA rules).

Nope & sorry, I just mixed it up. It's the other way round, conforming to your observation.

I modified my former post accordingly.

    But, the discrepancy remains.
