When I lived in the Uk I knew this American girl....thanksgiving so wanted to do a big TG meal for her friends. Chose a pub and gave them a menu.....all excellent apart from the Pumpkin Pie. A British cooks take on this was fooken awful - dry not sweet at all (she had no recipes)...everyone was stunned and remarkably polite and nibbled complaining we had eaten too much to fit in the pie!
Well we repeated it the next year....but gave the cook a recipe - was perfect!
Haha. The literal pumpkin pie, with only pumpkin. I would assume tastes just like a pumpkin smells. Bitter and dry.
Your's reminds me of a TG story. Forget who it was but someone went out and bought a pre-made apple pie from the grocery store a few years ago for Thanksgiving. Only they didn't see that it was a Vegan apple pie. Quite a few people had a slice, took a bite, and one by one everyone started getting to full to finish. Will have to say tasted something awful and not even a side of ice cream and whip cream on top could make it better. Found out after doing dishes by checking the box and it all made sense. :p
