A for pay hitting range but cheap, said one credit per hour per club, so if I wanted to compare two drivers it would cost two credits for an hour. The ranges should include all lies(tee off, fairway, different grades of rough, rescue, brush, bunker, different sand wet,dry soft hard etc. For extra credits you could have sliders to control putting surface, wind etc. This would draw more credits to you and make the game more realistic for us.

Tom, you are asking for 3 modifications simultaneously: 1) a driving range, 2) cheap club rentals, 3) balls with 'endless life'.

3.)  Unless you use a starter ball, this isn't going to happen.  (If you use the "Mulligan" feature, you will use 2 'hits' worth of ball life with each swing of the club - including the putter - on the green).  The Mulligan, is very useful for testing just about everything you mention - on any course that you desire. Just remember that each course plays just a little bit different and that  the rough at St. Andrews will not be exactly like the rough at Congressional.

2.)  Once, every Green Moon (or so) WGT breaks free and allows "Free Rental Weekends" - this past weekend was an example. When the next one will occur is always a mystery - but you will have to wait until the next one if you don't want to pay for the rentals. Also, just a note, you will only have access to equipment allowed for your level of play.

1.) This probably been the most requested item on this Forum and the one most ignored by WGT.  By entering the "Practice" mode, you can (sortof) make your own Driving Range - just pick a course, hit your ball into whatever hazard you want & use the "Mulligan" feature to adjust aim points and power combinations. I do not know if you can switch clubs during the Mulligan (but I suspect NOT), but remember that Mulligans shorten ball life.

The fact that you cared enough to request this is an indication that you want to be more competitive and like the game.  Good! When frustrations build - just remember to ask yourself "Am I having fun, yet?"

    Good luck.

To testify for the seven years I have been here Wheels, I believe you are right...both times. Wgt has never even peeped as to why not. It is a true enigma. The requesters, like Kelly, have even taken the time and thought to lay out what they want. These players are newer and want badly to improve, in private. As to how Wgt fails to see a practice range as a simple on-going, potential cash cow is, well, is another enigma. They are famous for them.

Thanks for the input, at least someone reads this

But I was not speaking of cheap rentals. I was speaking of the number of clubs I actually used on the range. Currently I have two drivers and intend to rent another and test it. Before deciding to buy. If there was a driving range, I could take all three and hit them under same conditions. It would cost extra for each additional club I used. Heck, I would even take all my irons out to the range and play with them In fact I would rent the best WGT clubs and test them against what I have. I looked at specs on the top ones and they seem better than most of the brand names at far higher prices. More than likely because of kickback to real club mAkers...Again thanks, glad someone is listening. I would think they would rather get five to twenty credits in an hour for a range, than get nothing for hitting free courses, besides making the game more realistic.

A "reason" has been given once, way back in time:

"The game would become too easy"

In my words, you'd have to spend less time and balls in honing your skills on the cost of their revenue, and they refuse to go that way.

So, the only concession is the Mulligan (*), and indeed players may use it to compare optional clubs. This is because you may fit more than one driver (or any other "optional" club) to the bag and leave for a suitable course (BPB B9?) or hole.

(*) a massive concession IMHO, because it breaks their principle "Thou shalt not have a choice" and might raise demand for an "unplayable ball" option by the rules in ranked games.

I normally use the first at Kiawah Island to check club yardages. Go into practice mode and set wind to lowest. You may have to do this a few times unlit you get a nice low breeze, preferably about 0-3 straight across. Then hit from the tee just to the edge of the fairway. Then start hitting irons and take notice of there landing distance on dinged shots. I use full spin a fair bit so I have 2 for each club. One with full spin and one not touching the dot, then you can make minor adjustments using the dot to get (hopefully) the exact yardage.

Don't forget to add some yardage when playing full spin into wind and look for the ball to run out more down wind. It takes a while and a few balls but it will lower your scores when you have the right club yardages. Make sure you use the same ball as much as you can, each ball has different specs so the yardages change a little. With the driver issue just go off the Specs in the pro-shop. Higher ball flight is better I think. Also don't forget to use the full spin option on your woods. Stops the driver from running through fairways and makes it fly higher. Allows you to stop the 3 wood almost like a wedge.

Hope this mad rant can help,

                                                                                          Jacko.

There would be no need for a practice range if WGT would allow a practice setting for the CTTH courses just like stroke play . Add the mulligan and wind feature settings and players could wow out to their hearts content .This would give players a great way to work on their short game . This would make a way for players to practice every aspect of their game and use all of the courses as well . It would also increase revenue through ball sales too .
