So I recently moved up to Master after purchasing a better driver which helped immensely with my approach shots. Now I'm left questioning my irons and wedges. Also I've been using 3 wedges with average distances off 85,65,&50. I do not have a hybrid atm, but am thinking of buying one and ditching a wedge. Thanks btw I'm at level 53 almost 54

    Thanks

I am truly convinced that there are a great many more shots saved with wedges than could ever be saved with any hybrid.

I totally agree with Lily. As a master or tour master in most cases you don't even need a 3 wood. Many like me until they released the Taylor Made R11s 3 wood didn't carry a 3 wood and used 4 optional wedges. As for the hybrid in this game it almost useless. The 3 iron in the higher level iron sets will do almost as good a job as even the best hybrid. And using all 5 shot types with 3 or 4 optional wedges gives you a myriad ways to play each shot and help you shave strokes off your score.

Concerning irons, some patience will help you.

Now and later, one important characteristics of irons will be "high" trajectory to enable you to aim "darts" at the greens, placing the balls where you want without much rollout. The first "high" clubs are the G25 @L59 and 88,500 XPs.

As others said, three wedges are mostly preferred over a hybrid. They should evenly fit under the PW. Thus, when you chose the irons, you may think of a 100 or 105 yds ATV or Ping Gorge in the L40s range to replace the 85 yds club, or wait for a better choice @L69 or @L79. Include the punch shots in your thoughts as they help to get a good scale of "natural" 100% distances.

It is true Joe. And I believe it is a fabulous teaching aide when 4 wedged are carried because of so many distance choices. In not a lot of time with this set-up, one can develop a short game that makes getting it up'n'down almost a done deal. It pays for a bright future in this area. As we know that when one gets really, really good missing greens never goes away.

Prudent advice by all and I see the OP did go for the 3 wedges and upgraded the irons. Personally the upgrade to G25's would have been better, but I know it is hard to wait when you are itching to upgrade.

What I will add is try to play all the courses as each is different and you will learn course management and learn to play different types of shots as different shots on different courses work better than others.

Above all, have fun, scores are not as important as having fun playing this game.

Also play multiplayer games and learn and see how others play, particularly higher tiers - most players are willing to share some knowledge.

One point for TM bordering on legend - a good way to get used to longer approaches is ditch the driver and only use a 3W from the tee. This will help you with the longer approaches when you reach legend tier.

Thanks for all the advice. I did buy some new irons and a better 3 wood and a hybrid to toy with. I figured I'd toy around with different options.

Do the G25 irons unlock at a higher level? Just curious if maybe I missed them. Thanks for the advice. One thing that has helped me the most is playing against others in the higher level coin games. I see someone with a low average and higher tiers I pay attention to how they play and what they pack in their bag. Thanks again!

Awesome advice. Wish I'd thought of that; would have made the transition much easier.
