The thing is, although I'll almost certainly jump all over any new, better gear that comes along, assuming I'm a high enough level, we really, really don't need better clubs. Or any more comma's in a single sentence.
The game has become so easy compared to how it was 4 or so years ago. Back then the Cally ball was as good as it got and the best irons were Ping i15 which had a wicked meter and low forgiveness so you needed to have great reflexes to play well with them. Most players stuck to the reliable G10 and many managed to post great scores with them. And that was in my early days, I'm sure it was a lot tougher before that.
Today though, it's just too easy. High precision and forgiveness combined with a slow meter and balls that slow it even more and travel further with more spin have made a mockery of the scores.
I've been beating my particular drum alone for a long time now. The tune goes something like, if you use full power on any shot, other than a putter, the meter will turn red at 90% (for instance) and you will lose a certain amount of forgiveness. Maybe it could be half for 80% power and 3/4 for full power shots with the meter going orange between 80 and 90%. The figures don't matter really, I just want WGT to represent real life a bit better and make a full power swing harder to hit accurately than one played within yourself.
Risk / reward, it's what makes life interesting.
