So, I have zero idea how things work when playing here.  I can hit the same shot twice in a row with vastly different results.

As an example, I just shot the front 9 at Oakmont in practice.  I'm 135 yards out on 2, I use a 6 iron, excellent shot...and it goes wide right.  So I mulligan, same club, same power, excellent shot...and it goes wide LEFT.  How in the frak is that possible?  How can I use the same club, same power, same excellent shot, and get 2 totally different results?  And it doesn't matter if I use spin or not - that also doesn't seem to work as some shots with backspin will roll as if I put topspin on them, and vice versa.

And can someone please explain how the putting works?  No matter what the green says about break, or distance, or height/depth, I cannot sink a single freaking putt outside 3 feet.  No matter how many mulligans I take, or where I aim, or how much power I put on it - if it's beyond 3 feet, it's either wide left or wide right.  And most of the time, even with minimal power, the ball rolls the entire length of the green and usually ends up in whatever random bunker happens to be near the green.

Am I just stupid?  Is there something obvious I'm missing when I'm hitting the damned ball?  I'm getting really frustrated with this, and I'm ready to just quit.  I need someone to explain this to me before I just up and leave.

Starter irons have more deviation than Sodom.

Are you using the right scale for the putt?

    Through the greens:
Accept that you are using some low-level, low trajectory clubs which need severe adjustment to uphill shots and lack precision.

    Edit: Around the greens:
Learn to disobey the preselections. "Chip" and "Pitch" are wrong most of the time. If in doubt, use punch or full shot.

    On the greens:
3 feet is an acceptable hitting distance for a beginner. Observe the green speeds, learn the length adjustments and try to play "two putts".

Edit: Observe the putting scales. Weird deviations, especially but not exclusively from the fringe.

    My two Pfennig:
    Don't buy a putter below 500 credits.

Joined a few days ago and ready to quit.........good idea as gets more painful

Play history alone tells me you need to play some ranked rounds instead of blitz.

But few days, well i feel it may not be for you.

First off welcome to the game . Now there`s good news and bad news . The good news is that you are playing witht the worst clubs in the game . They are designed to only introduce you to the game and get you started . As you play you will move up the levels and tiers to the point that you will be able to get better clubs . This game plays just like the real game and is just as frustrating . But in spite of that you will learn it and have fun doing so along the way .

When putting you have to learn your putterand power level and it all comes from trial and error . Use the search box >>>>>>> or the Active Threads feature and you will find tips on putting and use the videos as well .

Now for the bad news . As I stated this game plays like the real thing . You will curse scream and have absolute total melt downs and you may even have your sanity tested to the utmost. We have gone through that and are still going through it as well . This is the most aggravating game that you will ever enjoy playing . Just hang in there and practice and learn how to use your clubs .It will get better but you will have to put your time in .

Top of the page "Get Credits" click on "Earn Free Credits" start watching the videos and doing the free offers to earn credits . You want to start building your credit stash for upgrading your clubs down the line . There is also a thread titled "Advice to New Players " use the search box to find it and by all means read it .

Oh when you get frustrated dont throw your phone or tablet and dont hit or slam your computer .Remember this is only a game just play and have fun . I hope this helps and good luck with your game . :-)

there is no need to get stressed or frustrated with this game you simply have to understand you  cant play it like a normal game its a web based free to play and that by definition means its just for simple time wasting fun....

i have recently returned and after 6-7 week can see that the total randomness of each shot is like flipping a coin....maybe when i get to lvl 100 and have all the best gear some of the randomness will disappear but until then i just hit and hope the RNG  is kind,,,,lol

Speaking from experience, 'at level 100..the best gear' sometimes doesn't make the randomness disappear.  I was playing one of my fav courses Pinehurst. I have made notes from all the rounds I played there, and one of the last times I played it, the approaches done with great execution and great golf balls had balls flying all over the place.

It's just the so-called 'realistic' nature of the game.

edit: the kicker was that the well executed shots with the top level clubs were well out of the perceived precision circle which made the leveling up a pipe dream ruse which is just a waste of good time. (w.g.t.) In retrospect, it's all so clear. Business as usual.

I think there are basically two groups of people who come to this game.

Group 1: Golfers. If you've played golf even a short time you know it is an impossible game to master. And that's the beauty of it. The saying, "WTF?" had its origins on a golf course.

Group 2: Gamers. Too many of this group expect the same result for the same input every time. That doesn't happen here, any more than it does in golf. You accept that as part of the challenge, or you move on.

To the OP: We've all been there. Hell, when I started I couldn't even figure out how to hit the damn ball, let alone sink a putt. Trial, meet error.

This is truly a game you "learn through doing." Have fun.
