I was exactly the same when I started and to a degree I still am but this is what makes this game so good. You will get better the more you play. I play the same 2 courses all the time, this helps to work out the characteristics of the each shot and also helps with putting. Better clubs and a better ball will help with consistency. don't give up, it will get better.

The major problem I am having with the explanations here is that even perfect shots are not perfect.  Or the same, regardless of whatever club you are using.  A perfect shot is a perfect shot is a perfect shot.  And the result should be the same every single time the shot is perfect.  No deviation, but it should go straight based on power of the shot and the level of club you are using.  It shouldn't go right, or left, or bounce around randomly when the shot is perfect.  So that, above all else, is the most frustrating thing here; perfect shots are not predictable.

Putting...ugh.  I feel better knowing that everyone struggles so mightily with it at first.  But it's more than a bit disheartening that it's tougher to do here than in real life.  IRL, I'm not bad on the green (although I tend to 2 putt every hole unless I'm way out in the sticks on the green).  But in this game, a 2 putt is a miracle when you aren't in practice, primarily because practice rounds at least let you take gimme's.  When I have to 4 putt from 3 feet out...that's annoying.  Highly.  It honestly should not be that hard.

And to the bubbsboy, who all but stated I really should quit:  way to help the noob.  Guys like you make me wonder why I post on the internet at all.  Cuz, you know, if I suck and complain, you just can't wait to tell me how much I suck.

Your advice about playing ranked rounds?  Not going to happen.  Why?  Well, if I'm frustrated with unpredictable shots with starter clubs when I'm by myself, how do think I'm going to react by getting my ass waxed by someone who's been doing this a whole lot longer than I have and has all the tips and best stuff?  Think about how stupid you sound telling me to go ranked when I'm obviously not ready.

No - but you are inexperienced and probably ignorant of how WGT actually works.

Yep - because of WGT's patented Virtual Equipment Model (VEM) that introduces a measure of uncertainty for each shot, even if you nailed judging the distance, the wind, slop of a green - and dinged the shot.

Just like in real golf there are factors beyond a players control. In real life wind speed and direction are not nearly as constant as they are WGT.

The conditions of a real golf course change throughout the day as sunlight and moisture content change the growth rate of fairway grass and the grass on the greens. So Tee shot roll out and green speed change a lot more on a real golf course than they do on WGT.

I think what you're describing and he's experiencing is deviation not VEM.  If VEM is turned on at all, it's extremely unlikely to be affecting the OP adversely.

All clubs here have deviation but the free one's have most (roughly the lower the precision rated the greater the deviation). There are many threads on deviation, try the search box.

WTF is a perfect shot? If you hit the ding, up pops PERFECT, meaning that you timed your swing and strike perfectly, nothing more.

You could be aiming at the moon but if you hit the ding it will still say PERFECT even though your ball comes to rest in the sea of tranquility, which is far from perfect if you're at St. Andrew's (or any other course in the game).

    Utter nonsense.

Had you posted some questions rather than an irrational rant you would have got help from the very many forum posters who like to help less experienced players. But you didn't so here we are.

    to the OP:

I have read this thread objectively. Every poster in this thread has provided sage advice, empathy and tangible guidance. We have all been where you are. Don't quit..else you lose every time. Better to struggle and get better; upgrade your equipment; try different formats...they all have something different to offer, and will round out your skills and comfort. With that will come confidence.

As an aside, although you took offence to what Bubbs stated, he is a CC owner of impeccable integrity. He, along with many of the posters in this thread, are experienced and knowledgeable players. They are routinely among the first to answer questions and help people. The problem is you come across as frustrated and defeated. Pose your questions as questions, listen to the answers and follow the advice provided. You will get better at this game..I promise.

I think it is silly to stick to 2 courses period. It is like my course or  i.m going home. As for clubs and golf balls they do help some players, but i have seen a lot of good players with wgt equipment only.
