    PeterHopper:

I think it's Jake's idea. But as he has retired, let'e give it to Bollox.

Retirement was short lived Peter.  Only made it a month and TWO about drove me out of my mind.  Gladly take the shotty meter here over that game any day.

    Hans,

The Stimp rating I was speaking is just as Bollox laid out.  It gives you a number in feet the ball rolls from a chute that's elevated 12 inches from the green.  To do this, they try to find a level lie and roll the ball from the Stimp meter in both directions then take the average of the two.

Would be awesome if they could write code for countless different speeds but I understand if that's not practical.  At the very least though they need to rename the 2 Tournaments speeds so you can differentiate between them.

I would think the code is already there (if it's done correctly); it is then just a case of multiplying a normal green speed by an variable which holds the actual green speed.  This has got to be the way it is done... else sack the programmers!

You'd assume Jake that the capability is there to allow for many different speed settings, given that they can speed up or slow down the current tournament green speed.

I think the biggest reservation that it'd bring from WGT's end would be the user friendliness aspect of implementing a stimp meter reading for the newcomer. What would a variation of 1 on the SM mean to a new player? The learning curve would become much longer and steeper and it could scare off the one thing WGT needs - new money.

For the long-term player however, it would freshen the game up immensely as it'd introduce a slight green variation nearly every round to keep us on our toes. I personally love the idea and think it'd be a tremendous addition moving forward.

I really like the stimp idea since you have to putt "blind" until you miss the first reasonably long one, a putt that you might have sunk if you knew the speed but instead it might give you a very unpleasant extra putt (happens easily on a 17ft -4inch break left)

My feeling is that green speed is not consistent at exactly 15% for very fast and 25% for tournament speed. I feel tournament speed might be anything between 15 and 30%, so it should not be a problem for WGT to just display the number they have randomized.

Having slightly different speeds for different greens in the same game would be cool as well.

I believe the simple fix is to get rid of tournament speed altogether....I mean really, you have very fast, fast, standard, and slow green speeds....if they were to just use those, then everyone wouldn't have to guess...I think this is being made way too complicated than it has to be.

Terrible idea. Nobody has to guess now, just use some simple arithmetic.

EDIT, and why are you bouncing old threads?

Actually there may be 8 different greens speeds.1 speed for each tier plus championship speed which is faster than legend tournament speed. If I read it correctly the tour pro tier has very fast green speed and master tier also has very fast so there must be tour pro very fast which would slightly slower than master very fast. Just as there is tour master and legend tournament green speeds the tour master tournament speed being slightly slower than legend tournament speed.

I find it funny they can add all the green speeds they have now,but not one or two more

One damned good reason is the absurd distinction between TM and Legend Tournament speeds.

Uh, there isn't one. Figure it out on the run.........

It would be nice wouldnt it to understand exactly how quick the greens are before we pay our entry fee.:)
