You answer your question well - it's an additional obstruction to the second shot on each hole!

Ball height is redundant as there's nothing to compare to.
Spin info is too late as we have to set up the shot by intuition anyway.
Carry and roll are important but only while we calibrate the shots, and the information is available anyway if we only look at the screen.
Nope, to me, it's just a useless new gadget which distracts players and complicates / potentially destabilises the game.
As an aside, it's the first "TopGolf"-like feature in the PC game. It focuses importance to the first shot - which is the only shot at TopGolf facilities - and makes the rest of the game less attractive.
