I tend to agree. I do generally pull the pin for flop or chip shots around the green, I don't believe those are moving fast enough to not go in if the pin is out and generally the pin can only keep those out.
I have had 5 or 6 bad experiences leaving the pin in the hole, hit it in the air a few times and had it go back into the water at STA for example. However if you are 175 yards away I would suggest that the pin will help you more than hurt you.
All that being said, I can see an option of letting you always pull the pin but to me the visual side of golf, even virtual golf is such so that I want to see the pin on my approach shots. If I'm WGT this would be way the heck down on my list to fix.
