    BMX123:

I just did some research on the average driving distances of the top 5 WGT players right now (monthly leaders) versus the top 5 PGA tour players average driving distances.

WGT Players averaged 306 yds. per drive

PGA Players averaged 312 yds. per drive

The other pertinent driving stat would be the fact that most accurate driver on the PGA tour has only 73% DA. What that transcends to on WGT is an awful driver really.

Personally think they should have brought a 292 driver with P-5.2, F-2.5 and M- 3 instead of the 289 driver. Always prefer having choices and different combinations rather than straight up no-brainer. But already reached a point of no return in terms of 289 driver,Vapor irons and Cleveland wedges. Need to preserve performance of BB 3 wd as top of the line unless its to self upgrade its own precision .. JMO...

6 yds is a lot more than one would think.

No, it's an empirical measure not a feckin debate.

'One would think' it's exactly 18 feet.

First, it's an average. Second, the averages are not calculated on the same courses. Third, it's only an N of 5, which means it's not statistically significant. Fourth, no, it's not "a lot more than one would think."

    Other than that, well said!

That's a great point. Would people support a longer driver if it was at the expense of forgiveness? I don't think so. I wouldn't.

I sold back a 3-wood that was longer than my current one because I couldn't deal with its lack of forgiveness. When I hit the ding, it was a beautiful club. But if I didn't, not so much. I gave up that club for a 3-wood that had a little less distance but a lot more forgiveness.

Did the same for both driver and 3wood, gave up a little distance for better accuracy and consistency. For some reason, you tend to score better when you hit from the short grass.

Would that be Old Bertha by any chance?  I heard they were sold with a free backpack, compass and pair of hiking boots for a while due to the excessive amount of time golfers were spending hiking around in the rough.

Since distance vs forgiveness has been mentioned I'll use this thread as my soap box to ask, once more, for WGT to change the meter and have any shot over 90% power much less forgiving towards a missed ding.  Any real life golfer knows it's much harder to hit a full power shot accurately.  Most of us play within ourselves in order to have a better chance of playing our next shot from the fairway.

Have clubs behave normally up to 90% power, after that the meter turns red and forgiveness goes out the window.  This wouldn't apply to putters of course since we cn just use a longer scale.

Risk/reward.  It's what makes life entertaining.
