Got to tour master a few days ago and my my putting sucks on very fast greens. Having a hard time making many putts from close up 3-8 feet. Worse from further away.

The greens are 11 stimp now, just a wee bit faster than before and just out of the "comfort zone" of very fast (10 stimp).

Now you have to stroke the ball a tad softer than before, thus the slopes will call in more and there will be a rising distinction between uphill and downhill putts.

Special care is advisable at OLY - these greens are likely to have different characteristics and stimp up- and downhill!

The good news: You will soon adapt to these conditions, and the weirder things (stimp 12+!) are yet to come!

(Edit:) Advice? Take my two Pfennig: Your enthusiasm will help you to grind your way through it - just be careful NOT to lose your emotions towards the game!

I was thinking of a putter upgrade but none available to me really have much better specs than the one I have.

Trust me L70+ Versa puttder is way better than the L47+ that you are using . Dont let the specs fool you it will take you as far as you want to go and could be the last putter that you will ever buy .

So that you don't waste useful hits on paid for balls.

Putts don't decrease the life of  paid for balls (don't count as hits on).

I'd also advise against using the free balls for any sort of practice.  They react too differently compared to, for want of a better word, proper balls to allow you to learn much from using them.

I play with the L33 Callaway ball, have done for years.  Through it being called Tour iS, Hex Chrome and now Chrome Soft, basically the same ball with a different name.  In WGT land anyway.  And I use that same ball for almost every single shot I take here, the exception being for a fun alt shot round when I sometimes use the Korbel ball.  By far the best novelty ball in my opinion.

My point is, there is no point practicing if you are using different equipment to what you usually play with.  Find a ball you like and can afford and stick with it, ideally for every round.

As to the new tier blues, I can sympathise with that.  A new tier and green speed can really set your game back.  You will get used to the greens though, it may take a while but you'll get the feel back and will wonder why you had any trouble in the first place.  Then you'll jump to the next tier and it'll start again.

Hang in there, it's worth it. I prefer faster greens as I'm sure many do.  Not those silly 16+ ones Icon likes to throw at us now and then but champ speed is great.

If you find yourself getting really fed up then I'd advise you to play some alt shot with 3 friends.  Just forget about winning or losing and have a laugh. Alt is by far the best time you can have here.

Thanks! Life is better. I am getting a handle on the green speed and my head cold cleared up too! I have a feeling once I get used to the fast greens the slow ones will be hard?

I am practicing at Saint Andy's to get it down.

This is not the best place to be practicing putting. SA was one of the early courses and WGT was learning how to map greens. SA and KIA are 2 of the earliest efforts and the mapping isn't as good as the later courses. Reads are difficult to the point where early advice was to "memorize" lines from experience.

BPB has decent greens to practice on. #2 and #3 and #4 are big and flat, easy to get to and will give you plenty of space to figure out the speed.  :-)

Thanks Jim, good advice. If I remember right when I first joined They only had like the first nine at SA? Also I believe it was the same graphics as the first computer golf I played in the  late 90's.

Your memory is about as reliable as mine!!

Kiawah was the first strokeplay course and the graphics have always been HD photographs.

In response  Apex PC this is straight from WGT's Help/FAQ

    What is a Mulligan?

A mulligan is a stroke that is replayed from the spot of the previous stroke without penalty.

How can I take a mulligan in WGT?

Mulligans can only be used in Practice mode as a single player playing on a stroke play course.

Is there a cost to use a mulligan?

If you use a mulligan during a Practice game, the ball you are using will be degraded by two hits instead of one hit. Mulligan putts will also degrade your ball by two hits.

Is there a limit on the number of mulligans I can use?

No, there is no limit on the number of mulligans you can use when playing a Practice game.

Please note that your game stats will not be accurate if you use mulligans during your Practice game.

I know most of you have played longer and have tiered higher than me. That's why I read these Posts to gain wisdom, and mis-information is worst than no information. Me believing a lie usually only hurts me and a few others, but when sharing it with millions it can become very costly to those who read it. I wasn't talking about driving, pitching, or any of the other strokes just putting. And it's my opinion that when trying to read the speed of a putt, The Rock will work just as well as a high priced ball. And I did learn how to read and state facts not fiction. I'm just saying!
