You provided incomplete info.  9 holes or 18?  What was par?  Courses vary somewhat and saying "-7" doesn't really tell anyone anything.  Even if it was 9 holes, with par of 36, -7 would be a 29.  X 2 = 58.  above your average by 1.45.

For calculating average, the score relative to par (i.e. + par) isn't the important number. You need to look the raw score. That's what the average is based on.

I have a serious question that maybe you can answer. I see this question (that the OP asked) come up time and again. And, at times, the question is asked by people who have been playing for quite some time. How do people not know this?

I'm serious. When I first started playing, I figured that out right away. The only thing I needed to be informed about was the idea of "saturation." Is it the case that a lot of people on here have never actually played or followed golf in real life? Could it be as simple as that?

If you change the word it to they in your post you may be getting close to the problem.

The solution is rather more elusive though.

    Hey,

    Many thanks for your answer.

You could see what have played:

    11.14.16 13oqp Front 9 All Players 26
    11.14.16 13oqp Front 9 All Players 27
11.14.16 Kiawah F9 Ready Go Front 9 All Players 29

    29 my average 56.55 go to 58,

    27 my average 58 go to 56.69

anther ready go 29 my average 56.69 go to 58

and my last stroke 26 my average 58 go to 56,8

It seems very up and down... and I don't really understand. Could you?

    Kind regards

    Eric

What do you expect from a 72-7=65 score? Should it lower your 56,55 average?

For what it's worth, it was a 29 (-7 on the F9 @ Kiawah).  In a private conversation, I gave him an example and showed how the average moves after you tier up until you saturate.

I have a question myself.  Is there a saturation point once you make Champion?   I know that it's 200 Ranked Rounds for TL to Champion + the appropriate average.  I don't recall ever seeing it discussed.

Saturation for Champion was 200 rounds for me.
