How can the 7th hole be a par 4 with a distance ranging from 498-510 yds?

The reason is because it is set up like the US Open, where the par is 70 and not 72 as it would normally be for that course the other 51 weeks of that particular year.  So, to make it a par 70 the USGA decide to turn a couple of par 5's into par 4's, not by changing anything about the hole except it's par.

It's beyond stupid for the USGA to make a par 5 a par 4 just so it will be tougher. I'm convinced that's the only real reason why they do it? Make the course hard to play. The USGA is obsessed with getting that even par or +1 winning score and it's bringing down the US Open. They need to look at what The Masters is doing. It is a tough course but it is being played the way it was meant to be played. The USGA needs to stop messing with holes like this. This is one of the reasons the US Open will never be close to the Masters.
