How many Hits on different balls?

  They have a durability rating on each ball that they sell ranging from 1 to 2.5

  How many hits can  you do on a 1 rated ball?   Can you hit a 2 rated ball twice as many times?   Do Tap ins, putts, drives and fairway hits all count equally?

  I was playing a guy yesterday who got me thinking.  I was playing with Max balls and he said " You better make every shot a good one because you're paying about  3 cents a shot with those balls"    LOL

  Instead of a durability rating , I think they should just tell us how many times we can hit the ball before they take it away. But then a better informed consumer might spend less in the pro shop.

  General rule:

  WGT balls

  • 1.0 durability - 70-90 hits
  • 1.5 durability - 90-110 hits
  • 2.0 durability - 110-125 hits
  • 2.5 durability - 125-150 hits

  non WGT balls (Nike, Callaway, etc.)

  • 2.0 durability - 100 hits
  • 2.5 durability - 120 hits

  These do not include putts on the green. Putts from the fringe and all other shots impact a ball's durability.

  There's a usage meter below the ball&spin display. It becomes red when 25 hits are left, IIRC.

  In former times, members of one CC did the counting. One dot balls have 90 hits, 2.5 have around 120 hits. I think that's the max known no.

  Mind you that putts on the greens don't count, but putts from the fringe do.

  Mulligans count 2, alse when putting.

  The real question that you might want to ask is "How much is the enjoyment of the game worth to you?" The free ball are too fast to hit and if you are like most of us, you want to tier up, without the frustration of hitting too many  out of bound shots.So only play what you can afford to loose without worring about the cost.See you at the top!

  Thanks guys,   now I  can make a better decision on balls if I can figure out how much each shot costs. That's  nice that putts don't count, I did'nt know that.   It used to irritate me when I had a under 2 foot putt and my opponent did'nt CC.  Now That I know that the putt doesnt go against the durability, it wont bug me as much.

  The "Max" balls have a durability rating of 2.   I've never heard of Max balls in real golf, so are they considered WGT balls and there fore  have a few more hits in them than the Nike/ Callaway 2 rated balls?

  Nobody (out here) knows exactly, so you'd have to do the count - please post your results!
