Why can't we not have auto pick selection turned off! As the pitch shot is almost useless in this game and being back in the fairway with rough and water in between me and the green hardly a place for a pitch shot! This function has easily lost me over 40 games!  Also why can't we know what the green speed is BEFORE we waste the first approach shot???

If you turn off the Virtual Caddy in the game settings menu, you then can select your own clubs.  Once you pick a club, you also may have to select the type of shot.

Best thing to do is get in the habit of checking and selecting the type of shot you want to make during your shot set up and aim routine.  I usually use the pitch function to be able to aim on the green where i want to shoot at.

You have good equipment and are using a pretty good ball.  Learn to make all of the shots with your wedges.  Pitch, flop, punch and chips are all good shots to learn.  There is a place for each type, but I admit I seldom chip.  I probably manage to hole out 1 shot from off the green in about 1/3 to 1/2 my 9 hole rounds.  Usually with a pitch from less than 17 yards.

You might consider getting rid of your hybrid and adding a 3rd (60 degree) wedge.  It will be a lot more use to you, especially your short game.

    Good Luck.

The green speed will be the designated speed of the highest ranked player in the group, unless it's a tournament, in which case, get your approach on the green and there it is.

I don't know where you are finding the virtual caddy. I play on a tablet so maybe that's different. I just wish it wouldn't select the pitch shot unless you are within 5 yds of green cause it won't clear much more than that and to activate it when you are 3yds away is ridiculous.  I do very well with wedges as I have yardage mapped.  So on the fence about hybrid.  Thanks for the suggestions though.

The green speed is completely random in the 3 and 9 hole matches as I have had anywhere from 7.4 to 12.0 greens with players from as low as 26 to as high as 98. So not sure what your referring to. I have played many real courses which post the green speed for any given day so I don't understand why they can't tell us, especially in a 3 hole match.

Hhahaha...To each their own.  The pitch is as deadly as a punched wedge if the position calls for it...Which is often enough.

    Develop your own pre-shot routine!

In most of the cases, pitch and chip are wrongly auto-selected, as are clubs for longer approaches and putting scales. Not to mention the shot direction from the tee.

All of this must be checked and adjusted by the player!

Concerning green speeds, there are certain rules in ranked and MP games (as stated above) and the information can be picked up before the game quite often. Only in practice rounds, it's up to the inviting player to set it at his discretion - just ask him or her!

True. Many of my over 600 holed approach shots were pitch ins from about 8 yards up to  around 20 yards or so. With good wedges and a lot of practice the pitch is deadly

Looking at your scrambling stats, I think a better wording would be " I am totally useless at using the pitch shot in this game"

Learn how to play it well and it will be your best friend.

If you have a lot of rough or water in front of you, use a punch shot.

But how it has lost you over 40 games is beyond me, as what you are saying is quite absurd - if you have played and made the same mistake over 40 times....then you are an exceptionally slow learner!

Your real issue is you are hitting just over 50% of greens in regulation and only a third of the time do you save par - it is obvious you never have taken the time to learn all the shots.

A third wedge in place of your hybrid would help.....but not until you spend time learning the short game
