Can any seasoned pros out there give me a rough ball park figure as to the average apex height they normally attain when teeing off? Am just curious. I'm a neophyte golfer using starter clubs & balls, but considering new equipment purchases.

Usually I only get 50-60 feet of apex height off the tee & though I'm extremely accurate in ball placement, my ball tends to travel in a shallow arc & often rolls past the hole long distances, instead of stopping at or near the the green, as it would in a high arc shot. This occurs even when I place the little dot at the bottom of the the golf ball icon for max backspin. Do better clubs & balls give a discernible increase in apex height & ball stoppage, without rolling on forever as my balls do?

While the starter clubs say they have a high trajectory, I don't think it's really high compared to upper level quality high trajectory clubs.  For example with my driver, the Nike L95 (which is comparable to the current Cally L100 driver) I get an apex on a drive with a WGT G13-S ball with a 45 degree tail wind at 5 mph of 95 ft.  With a ball with more spin it might be higher.

Since the starter ball has no spin attributes and the starter clubs have around 0.5, it is almost impossible to stop that ball with those clubs.

If you only want to buy clubs once until you reach L100 or so, you have options available to you now that will work for you if/when you reach Legend and have to play from the Parking Lot Tees.

As a L92 player you have lots of quality club choices.  When I reached L79 I bought the TM SLDR in white.  It has the same specs as the L89 TM SLDr in black, but the L89 is cheaper by 500 credits, @ 2295 cr.

You have other options available from the L83 Cally Big Bertha Alpha  to the TM R15.  Prices range from the 2295 for the SLDR up to 2895 for the R15.  Most are rated for 282 yds, except the R15 which is rated for 285 yds.  Meter speed is the biggest variable.  I played with the R15 and Rsi2 irons after reaching L90, but eventually gave up on them as the 3.0 meter was a bit too fast for me.  I had kept my SLDR and went back to using it.

Same thing applies to a 3W's.   irons and wedges, not quite so much.  I've been using the top level Cleveland wedges and I am very happy with them.  The 64 degree wedge will even back up the starter ball, so there is a learning curve with them.

One thing you could consider is the Cally Fusion woods and the Steelhead XR irons.  All have a meter speed of 4.2.  Bottom line is it will cost to get quality clubs.  You will also want to consider using a better ball, like a Cally L33.

Feel free to ask if you have more specific questions about particular equipment.

    Good Luck,

I think most will agree with you that particular gimmick is of little or no use to your game.

Think not so much about what  your clubs can do for your balls, but rather what your balls can do for your clubs.

Actually it all works together.  The higher you can get your balls the straighter they drop and thus the less roll once dropped.

I would ignore that apex stuff.  High trajectory clubs and half decent balls will allow for greater control once mastered.  Think of starter clubs as hickory sticks and starter free balls as range balls..........No matter how good you are you will not play as well as your ability allows with that set up.

EDIT: Balls higher than your clubs (levels) is generally a waste of your balls potential.

I'm inclined to agree with Fencer. High trajectory is important with irons but is overrated with a driver. Sure, you get flight and distance and all that, including a more severe relationship with the wind, but driver height is not going to knock strokes off your game.

I have an 8 degree driver and have yet to come across a spot where that hurts. OTOH, top spin on it on the links courses gets some serious roll and distance, especially if you pick your landing spots and that driver is accurate enough to do that. The lower flight also negates some of the wind influence.  :-)

    +100!

This indication is fairly new and to me, it's just a gimmick.

Ball flight, trajectory and roll has been working well enough without "apex". Club and ball characteristics do the job.

My best advice to the OP is that all the replies so far here are from players who have been around on here for a fair while and have reached a fairly high standard, We managed perfectly well without worrying about "apex".

It is just a distraction from the more important aspects of the game, which you should be concentrating on. Also most of the higher tier and top players have this turned off in their options, or at least I would imagine they have.

You are fortunate to be in a Country Club with some very good players, use their knowledge of the game and ask them for advice, you'll soon notice an improvement in your game without worrying about the apex thingy .

Go to your game settings , Display , Scroll down to the bottom and where it says tee shot data , Turn it OFF !
