I would like to centralize a place where your tips and how-to questions could be seen by going to a single thread. There are a lot of cool tips I've shared and received in AS play and sharing them around will help a lot, I'm sure. Last year Iconian posted a great hole-by-hole way to play Oakmont and it helped a lot of players qualify.

Ask a question or live your tips. My 1st question is how the heck do you play the 2nd hole, the 231 yard par 3?

All I got from you in our AS games is trash talk Jim, I must have missed the tips. LOL

Tip on # 1:  Putts are straighter and easier right of and below the hole.  Left or long are tough putts for me.

Step 1 - You need to have the R11 3w (check)

    Step 2 - Callaway (z) balls required (Legend+ Suggested)

Step 3 - Pray for a side wind or in your face wind....

    • If in your face, almost full power with full backspin (I've seen this wind twice)
    • If side wind, full back spin and about 5-6 more power than the top avatar movement.... pray for no deviation (more common wind)
    • If tail wind.... heh... little less power than side wind (2-3 lines) and pray for a good hop out of the rough...

I've been 6" from a hole out, and am usually within 10 feet in the first 2 scenarios... in the last scenario GIR is about 30% and got the great hop once to get within 5 feet.

    Good Luck

*disclaimer* Please note that these power suggestions are approximate based on average wind, my clubs and my experience.... your mileage may vary .

  • With tailwind I hit it just about as hard as cross wind, move the pointer 5yds to the right and play to hook it. This usually leaves me with that downhill 12footer to the left of the pin. And if it goes wrong in the rough to the left of the pin which is pretty troublesome...

R11 3W with headwind, no headwind or slight tail wind..,adjust the spin and, or choke down as necessary;  with a tailwind of any appreciable nature, the Burner 2.0...with significant side wind, have found that an early or late meter hit can help control the shot... H

Whats up with the approach on hole #4? Either yardage or elevation is wrong in that all my approach shots ie.5iron comes up 10yds short no matter the wind?

#2, or just get a lucky bounce right into the hole. :-)  I think I hit this one full bs about 231 yds.
