OK the number of game needed to be played as legend before only best games are taken into account is NOT 300. So I guess it will be 500... (or more...) Geez, 10 times more than for tour master... It's really a punishment to reach legend :) .

I think WGT could give us the precise number of rounds to be played. I can understand why they keep it "secret" (well it's so easy to figure out those numbers once you have reach them) for lower tier, but for legend I don't see the point not to reveal them.

WGTicon - can you confirm that this is not a bug? 300 rounds sounds a little high before average saturation is reached.

    It's not a little high, it's absurd.

As previously stated in their own conditions, playing a bad round does not negatively effect your average, and says nothing about which tier your on, so play, play, play. That is once your average has been established.

I have played over 50 ranked rounds since becoming a Legend which should be well within the realm of establishing an average and genorb has over 300 rounds, and still our averages fluctuate?

Well, I too am asking WGT for a straight simple answer to a simple straight forward question, HOW MANY RANKED ROUNDS DOES WGT NEED TO ESTABLISH AN AVERAGE THAT WILL NOT GO UP EVEN AFTER A BAD ROUND FOR THE LEGEND TIER?

WGTICON? SOMEONE WITH A STRAIGHT HONEST ANSWER FROM WGT?

It's not that hard of a question now, is it?

    FAQ:

    What is my Average Score?

Your Average Score will be based on multiple best scores within ONLY your current Tier, not scores that you shot when in previous Tiers, which better reflects your current skill competing with the tee boxes and green speeds in your current Tier. Your Average Score will be based on ONLY your best scores, so completing a bad round will not negatively impact your Average Score or Tier. So be sure to finish all your rounds and gain the extra experience points, as a bad day won’t matter.

As we know, this statement from the FAQ is not literally true, because at lower tiers as well the average does go up and down for a while until a certain base number of rounds have been recorded.

As far as Legend is concerned, maybe looking at your most recent 100 rounds or whatever would paint a fairer picture. However, the whole rationale for counting only the best scores--combating sandbagging--does not apply at Legend tier because there is nothing to sandbag.

That is, unless and until they carve out a higher tier, 'Hall of Fame' or whatever. Or maybe a 'Bollox' tier that would have just the one player in it?

Hey Z, I agree with this and the rest of what you wrote. The question only arises because it appears WGT may be calculating averages differently for those who were made Legends on the day the tier was created (average only goes down) and those who became Legends afterwards (average fluctuates for over 300 rounds, and maybe never gets to the point of "saturation"). But again, you are certainly right - either way the only impact is on the number that appears as one's "WGT Average".

That said, I am still curious about this and hope that WGTicon will chime in.

I guess there is a given number of games beyond which only best games count otherwise you would create de facto two categories of legend players which is not fair at all (well once again average is not that crucial but still). However I strongly doubt that we will get confirmation here and/or that this "magic" number will be given here. WGTicon always gives laconic answer when someone ask for those numbers (of the kind, "play and your average will settle at some point"), this just means that he is not allowed to reveal that information.

Anyway when I will know this number (and I will know it at some point because I keep track of all my scores), I will post it here.

genorb, the question I'm hoping WGTicon will answer is not how many rounds the magic number is, but does the magic number exist. There was no magic number for the original Legends, they automatically went into "average never goes up" mode, I believe. I just want to know if there is a programming error that prevents newly minted Legends from ever going into "average never goes up" mode.

OK ThreeSpot, that's indeed a competely different question (sorry I didn't get it when I wrote my previous post) and WGTicon should/could give us an answer on this particular point. The answer could be as short as "no programming error, everything is correct as it stands now" :) .

The magic number does exist, I progressed to to legend tier in January and my average stopped going up towards the end of last month. I was keeping track of it but lost interest in eventually, I think its around 400.

Thanks Mohuyu, you are the right example: a player who was not promoted overnight to legend tier and which has nevertheless reached a saturation point!

According to your stat 400 rounds sounds possible. If it was 500, this means that you reached legend tier with less than 280 rounds which sounds a bit low (well not impossible at all because it took me 302 rounds to reach legend). Another way to get this number is as follow: you played 782 rounds up to now, let's say that on 18 June you would have around 800 rounds. 800 rounds in 10 month. So 80 rounds per month, so at the beginning of January you played around 360 rounds when you reached legend tier. so 780-360 is compatible with 400.

OK it will take me around 1 month to get there :) . I will post here to confirm if 400 is the correct magic number to close this story :). Thanks again.
