I've been noticing something that seems to happen more often than ever before. After I calculate wind, etc. and move the aim marker accordingly, when I take the shot, it seems like the game forgot that I actually moved the aim marker. It seems to default back to flagstick position. That does not happen on all holes, only on an average of about 2 holes per round. It still is mind boggling for me why that happens. I have come up with no solution. I just have to try to make a very long birdie putt. Perhaps some of you are experiencing the same thing.

    gene1022:

Ball flight line will appear, take a look at wind direction compared to flight line. Helps me.

Yeah that's what I do, gives you a clearer idea of how wind will affect the ball.

Tess is describing something else though.

After reading the wind and adjusting accordingly you take the shot but immediately after clicking if you look at wind guage it has changed direction. Sometines the change can be 20 or so degrees!

Had that happen a few times, mostly on the same holes. i just try to miss on the correct side now, when facing heavy cross wind.

P.S.: You know you dug up an ancient thread, right? Still a valid one though.

I don't know how well this game is programmed, but rl, wind gusts much more than it is steady. There are also eddies where the wind almost swirls. Also, in rl, there are holes that are more protected than others.

In WGT I seem to find some holes are harder to play because of the wind. Perhaps it is in my mind, but #8 on Bethpage is extremely difficult, perhaps because the tee and green are both protected but at the apex of the tee shot, there is no protection. Likewise the par 3's on Royal St. G, where there are no trees. really exaggerates the wind velocity  when it is crossing.

Sometimes the best way to judge the wind on WGT, is to wet a finger and stick it in the air. Middle finger works best!

That's where your going wrong Walt, 'in the air' is not where you're meant to stick it.

Guys you do realize this question what asked 6 years ago.

EDIT... yep also missed Kriz's P.S.

And to the seemingly new statements, change camera's and tend to play the wind closer to the landing point.  It will be the more accurate wind, as far as direction is concerned.

Finger in the air, only thing that does is make finger wet.

This game doesn't use any sort of physics engines for wind, or anything for that matter.

Wind effect is applied from the moment you strike the ball with full effect. Games doesn't use any sort of obstructions etc... Wind is an applied constant mathematical interference.

That's why people use rulers to aim, if trees, terrain, buildings, water etc acted as they should, as they do in real life, the game would be much more realistic to play. Far better.

WGT's method of making wind seem like it's wind is to simply give you false and misleading indicators... That's supposed to make you think it's gusting and swirling.. Ooooooo..... Not!

Valid observation. We have all hit the ball through an obstruction, like a tree. IRL we would not choose that angle...odds of making it through the branches are far too low.
