How about playing 3 match play tournaments(legends only) for each team meaning 3 match play tournaments for USA and 3 for ROTW. Play the first 2 tournaments till you get your top 4 players in each tournament for each team which will make up 8 players already who would make the ryder cup for both sides. Then play the 3rd tournament all the way through till you get a winner which would make up a total of 9 players for each side. Then add your captains for each team which makes 10 players for each team where the captains will then have the opportunity to pick there 2 wildcard players from the players who participated in the match play tournaments. This could be done just as the hustle is set up into brackets without the fee. Don't think it would be too complicated to put together and would get to see who are the best players from each side on the course the ryder cup would be played on. I know it maybe too late now since qualifying has already begun, but maybe a thought for the future ryder qualifiers. Any thoughts on this?

Just so you all know, we are listening, taking your ideas on board, and in 90% of the suggestions we did think about these ourselves during our very short window that we had to turn this thing around and get it going.

We just didnt have the luxury of time this year to make any major modifications to the tried and tested, with associated consultation with the intended audience.

Our reasons for going with the current format are as follows -

    - 6 qualifying tournaments were needed, the high number means a good player could absorb a bad round and still make it.

    - weekly tournaments meant people missed them last year due to holidays, so it was decided every qualifier had to be a monthly, this also meant the opens were out, as they are just a week, and the qualifier for them was out as its multi play.

    - in other tournaments, suspicions have been aroused of score manipulation via restarts etc, hence why single play WGT hosted events seemed the only proven way to go.

    - when we chose the monthly opens, we had no visibility of which courses the 4 events would be played on, it is just unfortunate that this month is Kiawah.

    - The monthly Kiawah was added in July and September to purely get the number of qualifying events up to 6, its the only other free single play monthly tournament we could use.

    - If WGT were to bring out a private tournament facility, by invite, single play and of a month duration, we would use that like a shot, and qualifiers would all have been played on CCC. They don't have that facility, so we have to make the best of what is available.

    - Finally, a burning dislike / boredom / frustration with Kiawah Island is probably the preserve of all players, and not just a burden to the select few.... I think every player walks off the place feeling they could have scored better, feeling the course robbed them of a couple, but at least we all have the same hand and that is all we can ask for.

I hope this goes some way to explain why the tournament selection is what it is, this year we had to turn this thing around on a dime, we had days, not weeks or months to set it up and get it going. We will have an open forum for next years event, well in advance, where all and any ideas will be most welcome. This year please bear with us, it was the best we could do in the time available.

    Cheers

Well put Monty - like you said we did our best to try and bring more courses into the qualifying but we cant control what courses WGT select for the monthly's!

As for Matchplay tournaments being used in qualifying im pretty sure that the real Ryder Cup qualification process is mainly based on performance in strokeplay tournaments throughout the season.

    Cheers

    Call for technical advice!

I played the July monthly yesterday, game was carzy, load timeouts, game crashed 20 or so times, meter was suffering from a hangover etc, but plugged my way round battling everything WGT could throw at me.

On the 18th green I have a 2.5 footer for par and it won't let me hole the putt, every time I try it crashes, saying there has been an error with the game, close the window and try again later, it has been like that since yesterday morning. I have tried 50 or so times to tap the putt in, but every time I hit the ball the screen brings up that message.

I have emailed WGT but not got a response, I obviously cannot bin the round as it is single play so I am stuck!

If anyone has had similar, and managed to fix it, please let me know how!

    Cheers

Strange as it may sound, I cleared my friends list and my cache.  Fortunately, it did clear the problem with time outs, crashes, unexpected errors.  However, it does prevent me from having alot of fun in MP rounds with fellow club members who are a blast.  Eventually I will add my club members back, but most likely not until after the Open championship rounds are played.  If there is another update prior to the Open rounds,  I will check it out by playing some random MP rounds and see what happens.

Hi Shade, did you managed to complete a game that was stuck on the 18th? Same thing was happening to loads of people yesterday, there was a thread running as people were unable to hole out on the final hole.

    Cheers

    Monty

EDIT* I have cleared the cache and it still didnt fix the problem.

The current qualifying process is the result of hours of thought, dozens of suggestions and years of experience. Of course, it is not perfect and hopefully in the future it will get closer to that perfection, but at the moment it is the best system we have. The fact that we don´t run wgt and therefore can´t control 100% of what goes on here has always given us problems, the biggest of those problems being that we can´t always choose the course on which the qualifying takes place. Obviously this year´s process will not be changed now as we have already started. Having said that, all suggestions are of course welcome and will be taken into account for future Ryder Cups.
