i am legend and i believe i am at saturation point. recently shot a 25 on a 9 hole CC tourney. my avg dropped to 60.63 from 60.65? i would expect a bit more of a drop. any input appreciated.

Basically, listed below is the tier progression. Remember that custom courses, par 3s, and par 5s don't count for average. Also, your average resets [br] with each tier advancement. Finally, the number of rounds indicated is the number[br] of rounds at that tier and not number of total rounds played. [br] When you have played at least 5 ranked rounds - and your average score is [br]equal to or lower than 100.00 you go from Hack to Amateur. [br] When you have played at least 10 ranked rounds - and your average score is [br]equal to or lower than 80.00 you go from Amateur to Pro. [br] When you have played at least 20 ranked rounds - and your average score is [br]equal to or lower than 72.00 you go from Pro to Tour Pro [br] When you have played at least 25 ranked rounds - and your average score is [br]equal to or lower than 67.00 you go from Tour Pro to Master [br] When you have played at least 40 ranked rounds - and your average score is [br]equal to or lower than 63.00 you go from Master to Tour Master [br] When you have played at least 50 ranked rounds - and your average score is [br]equal to or lower than 61.00 you go from Tour Master to Legend [br] When you have played at least 500 ranked rounds - and your average score is [br]equal to or lower than 60.00 you go from Legend to Tour Legend [br] When you have played at least 200 ranked rounds - and your average score is [br]equal to or lower than 59.00 you go from Tour Legend to Champion [br] When you have played 200 ranked rounds, you saturate at Champion. Tour [br][br]Champion is by invitation only.[br]

It seems about right... if you are saturated at legend tier and have 500 best scores that average to 60.65, then a score of 50 (9hole 25x2) would drop you around that amount (.02) where your worst score that is replaced by your 50 is not too bad i.e like a 65 or so, and not a horrible outlier like an 80 or something.

Keep in mind you are trying to move an average of 500 values by replacing just one of them with a value that, although equates to a great round, is not a huge departure from your other 500 values.   -Keith.

The average behaves differently at the saturation point, before and after it.
At saturation, the average plunges because the highest scores in the tier history are taken out, one by one. There might be a 75 to eliminate, the equation would then be (50-75) / 500 = -0.05 on the display.
After saturation, the worst of 500 scores would have to be close to 60 to cause the reaction you describe - improbably close to your average.
    Right before saturation, your 50 (=2x25) would translate to (50-60) / 500 = - 0.02 - that's what you describe.

What was the average's reaction on that recent 33? Did it move up? If so, you're not saturated yet. If not, then you are.

thank you, that explains why i was getting larger drops in avg when i first reached saturation a while back. i don't play stroke that often so i am not that familiar with the effect on averages. J

I'm a bit late it seems but anyway the numbers.

As said your average includes 500 rounds, as it is 60.65 that's 30,325 strokes. Your (25) 50 will have replace the highest score included in the 500 and, as you sound like you've been saturated for a wee while and have probably already removed the bigger scores, lets say that was 62. There would now be 30,313 strokes included giving an average of 60.626 or 60.63.

As a Legend or TL, you will come to play very low scores with no visible effect to the average...

I'm afraid to say that "-7" doesn't mean a thing. It may be a 27 or a 65 or a lot in between, with vastly different effect to an unknown average of an onknown status.

Please use full scores (29, 63) when talking about average.
