    A question....

maybe it will have already been explained, but I could not find anything in the previous posts...

the rules say: "next four will go through the plate knockout stage"

I did not understand why the teams classified from the 5th to the 8th place in the
    knockout stage compete.

    Ciao

Paul.....you have done a great job setting this event up.....kudos.......just a suggestion......handicaps given to lower tiers will always create controversy.....if one reaches legend status.......one has proven he/she is a good player........and wanting competition against the best of WGT .

Champs giving strokes to legends that drive fairways 90 %   and GIR 90 % and one putt over 50 %  ......... i ask you sincerely......how fair is that ?

lets get this tier concession thing out of the way please

i have been running this comp for 3 years now and the idea of the comp was always meeting new friends and having a bit of fun along the way.

i wanted all tiers to take part and for the lower tier a chance to take on CHS/TLS,

i remember when i was a legend searching for matchplay games and when i was in a group being kicked out by the first player who was always a champ, that happened a few times along the way.thats why i started the world cup,

in my experience  90% of the time a CH/TL will beat an average legend no problem and you would find that most clubs with a lot of legends in wouldnt want to take part and it would become an elite comp and thats what i didnt want,

so i thought i would give the lower tier a little bit of help and maybe just maybe they may have a chance ,2 holes out of 18 isnt really a lot but it may keep them in the game a little bit longerplus it gives the CHS/TLS a  challenge knowing they have to concede holes/shots,

as to the ill call them the experieced legends, they know who they are and there isnt many but some have put their hands up and reliquinshed their shots/holes.

this is your first year in the comp so just go with it and tell me what you think of it afterwards ok.

    finny

keep those teams coming in captains

As a new Team entering i have to say im in favour for the handicaps. we are here for abit of fun and to try give some of the top teams a run for their money. We know we wont win the event and even if we had 2/3 shots we still wouldn't. Watching some of the top players play theirs a good chance they would win by around the 14 hole against some of my players.

The handicaps then seem abit irrelevant but i think its a nice little gesture and a mental thing aswell which might just cause a few shocks in matches.

Yes there will always be those legends that can hit 18 birdies in a round. Im sure people have their own options about them players and if they are genuine or not. Thats up to wgt to decide and not Paul. To start only giving certain players handicaps from legend tier is a no go. Averages dont mean much on here.

Keep up the good work Paul.

I think most that take issue with the handicap are probably approaching it via the side of the fence where someone being a higher tier doesn't equate to being a better player.  Kind of obvious.

Now I cant speak for other CC's, and certainly there will always be exceptions to the rule (some have come forward -- good on them), but in the short time I've been in my current CC I'd say the rule applies.  i.e. only CH/TL's are winning the monthly CC tourney's.

I think if someone actually took the time to do some research and present some findings, you'd find that's more common than not -- as PaulFinn mentions above.

First sensible post I've read in this entire thread.

Low level/tiered players shouldn't have anything "handed" to them. If you want to play the best, either bring your A game (which still may not be enough) or lose and learn, and come back next year.

The Legend tier is the one tier dominated by baggers.

I saw a post here about this being a "have fun" tourney. Giving strokes/holes to someone simply means this is about winning, not fun.

    Kudo's to Indian's team.

Just my thoughts on the handicap subject.

i think you have the wrong idea on tiers my friend and my comp

    just my thoughts

I think Jay and that jockstrap guy should get together and put a competition on. ;-)

    Oh dear.

Please folks, let's not start bickering before we even kick this thing off.

We have a very simple rule at Bridgestone: Your tourney, your rules.

In this case, Paul's tourney, his rules.  There will always be people who don't agree with how something is run, if they feel that the rules are unfair then they don't have to be involved in it,  I'm pretty sure nobody is forcing them to take part.

I'm in it for the fun, the chance to make some new friends and have some laughs with them.  I'll concede whatever I have to to anyone.

Unless they try to convince me Trump is smarter than a lettuce.  No effin' way I'll concede that ;  )

    I agree 100%

I was just expressing my views/opinion on the matter. 3 years would/should still be considered a work in progress. Which would mean tinkering here and there along the way.

I applaud Finn for putting so much time and effort into running something like this.

Again, not bickering on my end. I agreed with a post and expressed my views.

This is very true and i'll do as we are told. All we want is some new friends and fun games and joking around. That's what we are here for. Let's us all go with it  and have fun. My club wants to thank everyone that put this together.  And a special thanks to Finn for having us.
