  Does anyone else use their meter to shape shots?

  Since day 1 on this game, I've shaped my shots with the meter: If I want to hit left, I click the meter early and if I want to hit right, I let the meter run. The more left and right I want to go, the earlier, or later, I let the meter run.

  Same thing with putting.

  Can you be successful in this game hitting shots like this?

   

  I think I play ok, though I'll probably never be a top flight player...but I attribute that  more to my stubborness with playing the free balls.(I got tired of WGT taking paid for balls "out of play.")

  Yes, most of us do exactly that, to compensate for wind mostly. On putts, it can be frustrating. Some of the best putters don't work worth tiddly toot with off ding putting. It takes time to learn when to do it, and when not to.

  I usually go against the wind off the tee. I do Draws and Fades that way, but keep in mind that it is a weaker shot.

  Since others have already addressed your primary question, I'm going to add my 2 cents here.
  
  Purchased balls have a set number of hits to them. Everybody should know that. So, I'm not sure what there is to be "tired" about. Additionally, since you live in the US, it's pretty easy to earn free credits. If you don't want to do the surveys, just load the app on your phone and watch videos while doing other things.  
  
  The cost in terms of time is minimal (if any at all), and a person can easily earn over 100 credits per day through watching videos. Unless a person is playing a lot of rounds per day, that's enough to purchase balls without having to spend one's own money.
  
  And throw in a survey here and there, and it's fairly easy to build up a bank of credits (if the person lives n the US; outside of the US, it's definitely a YMMV situation).

  Of course you can . I`ve been a miss ding player for as long as I`ve been playing the game .  It was first for playing the winds but I soon learned that hitting the ding all of the time was`nt needed . Hitting draws or fades was never on my mind just trying to put the ball where I wanted it to go .

  So from tee to green I learned how to play this way . I have found that it works best with clubs that have a lot of forgiveness . But even when putting I play the same way , using it for playing the breaks when needed . Even when playing putts with severe breaks I simply move the marker to change the line of the putt . But I still putt either early or late depending on the way of the break . Early for L-R and late for R-L putts is how I putt .

  To be a top player takes good course management, shot selection and ball placement . Then top that all off with good solid putting skills and you can be a top player .Oh and add practice practice and then more practice . So even though it may seem to be a strange way of playing , you can be a top player if you really put your time in .

  yes, there are a few holes on Olympic where its handy if you can get a bit of shape on your drives. the only problem being if you miss the hit or late hit and then you can find yourself in a lot of trouble. drives are the only time ill use this though, never on approaches

  #1 on Olympic is tough to fade on your first shot. Many times I dinged when I wanted to fade
