Honestly, the R9 just takes some getting used to. You really need to rethink your strategy off the tee, or at least I did coming from the R11. I could wield that thing like a scalpel. If I aimed five yards to the left of a fairway bunker, it landed five yards to the left of the fairway bunker.
Playing the R9, you just can't do that. Aim for open, green grass. Perhaps most importantly, god help you if you miss in the direction of the wind. I find that in a high crosswind, a slight intentional mishit along with a small move of the flag will serve you better than trying to move the flag and ding. If you miss the ding with the R9 in the direction of the wind even a little bit, you are going to land in 30/40 if you are lucky.
But like I said, learn how to play it and it will treat you well.
