What do you consider the better choice between these two drivers?

    G10 8.0° Driver (L58+)

    R9 TP 8.5° Driver (L62+)

The R9, as long as you can get reasonably close to the ding and don't try to act cute. Aim for big pieces of green grass and you should be fine.

I like playing AS against Masters with that G10-it wipes out the tee disadvantage.  :-)

    Get the R9.

i played the g10 from the girls tees, found it was more forgiving, the high r9 is great until you miss the ding (if i ever hit it at all) you dont know where it is going to go.

anyone got any dings i can borrow?

i agree with Joshjrn whole heartrendingly.

Honestly, the R9 just takes some getting used to. You really need to rethink your strategy off the tee, or at least I did coming from the R11. I could wield that thing like a scalpel. If I aimed five yards to the left of a fairway bunker, it landed five yards to the left of the fairway bunker.

Playing the R9, you just can't do that. Aim for open, green grass. Perhaps most importantly, god help you if you miss in the direction of the wind. I find that in a high crosswind, a slight intentional mishit along with a small move of the flag will serve you better than trying to move the flag and ding. If you miss the ding with the R9 in the direction of the wind even a little bit, you are going to land in 30/40 if you are lucky.

But like I said, learn how to play it and it will treat you well.

Thanks very much to all who have offered their advice and opinions. I have some experience with the G10 but not the R9. Would renting the R9 be a good idea to see how I like it or is one day not long enough to get the feel of it?

Ive lived with the R9 for along time..Renting clubs will give you an idea on how it works. For me when im ready to upgrade, I just buy it and toss out the obsolete club so i can make myself get used to the new one. Sometimes it can take months for me anyway to really figure out how to play with the new.. Good Luck and have fun!

One day isn't nearly long enough. It probably took me a week. Then again, my shift from the R11 was far more dramatic than your shift from the G10, but it's still going to take you longer than a day.
