    1) Have the default meter for putting be the one CLOSEST to the distance, not the one WGT thinks I should use.  A 13'-14' putt should ALWAYS have the 15' meter as default.

    2) Have anything BUT chip be the default for around the green.  My preference would be to have normal full shot as the default ANY TIME you are not on the green.  This includes on the fringe.

Yes, I am suggesting these because I have been burnt by assuming that WGT wouldn't default to the WORST POSSIBLE option, then finding it had.

Straying a bit from topic, yesterday at RSG I was on the fringe on one hole, don't remember which, with a 5' deep, 20' wide trap centered directly between me and the hole... My caddie suggested putter.  He was beaten and fired.

    1) Believe it or not, some people like putting short putts with the 30' more than the 15'. It's fine the way it is, and honestly takes very little effort to change.

    2) Why? Chips are probably the most commonly used shot from "around" the green.

I think the current defaults are the best for everyone as a whole.  I prefer to flop more than chip and I like the putts as close to the number as possible, same with full shots.

I do think that a button to turn off the caddy would be something that WGT might put into place.

    That made me LOL.

I've gotten caught a few times where I didn't check the shot type I was changed to but I can honestly say had I taken my time I would of been fine.

The reason I suggest this is that... well, besides that I have gotten burned by it, is that it isn't consistent.  I am putting from the fringe, 22' putt.  I get a 90' meter.  I am putting on the green 12', but 8" up.  I get a 15 foot meter.  Sometimes, a 14' putt gives me the 15' meter, sometimes the 30' meter.  Sometimes a 13' putt gives me a 15' meter, sometimes 30'.  A 14' putt, 2" downhill will have a 30' meter, then a different 14' putt, 2" uphill, 15' meter.  If they aren't going to default to the closest number, then they should at least default consistently.

And I don't know who you play with, but I see a lot more full shots, pitches, flops and punches around the green than chips.  And of the shots that I have had chip as default, about half of them there is no possible way to chip them on the green.  All I can do is beat them into the side of a hill.  Chip is only really useful when you are right at the edge of the green, and best if it's a short roll to the hole.  Never really understood the appeal of chip.  Why deal with the green at all when you can almost always get the same effect from a full or punch shot landed just short of the hole, just no green to deal with?  A bit of wind, but from that distance wind will barely affect a wedge.

Chip is great around the greens as the default. Even if I am flopping, or will hit a punch or whatever, I usually line up my shot from 'chip' as it always gives you a reverse view and allows you to read the green.

The logic on putter distances could be tweaked a bit.

for me it not shot selection that does my head in its club selection. e.g. my wedges are 100, 77, 50 i had a shot the other day that was 48 yds and the club my caddy chose was th PW at 100yds its stupid!

how about a compromise then. allow the player to select the defaults by adding these to the game options menu.

Why not just learn your clubs and shots and trust that instead of hoping the caddie tells you what to do?

Jim, not sure if that is what they are trying to get at rather than sometimes they forget to change what the caddie did suggest. I agree with you but I could understand others wanting the ability to set the defaults.
