My money is on your input device being the problem.  It happened to me a few times.  I think there must also be a limit as to how long you can hold the meter before it automatically releases - maybe someone else can confirm or deny this.

Keep in mind you do NOT have to hit the ball when this happens - just let the meter go and you will get another chance!

    Indeed,

The Doc has hit the nail on the head. Correct in every way.

So, I was going to ask you if you could possibly resolve some minor issues I am currently having with regards to my complete lack of skill Doc Larry?

    Cheers mate,

For a quick mouse test for either button is to click and drag across your Desktop as if you are trying to highlight multiple icons.

Normally you should see a rectangle that follows your pointer as you drag your mouse.  If the release action is faulty the rectangle will disappear unexpectedly.  If you are getting unwanted click events while dragging, the rectangle will appear/disappear unexpectedly.

Sounds like worn contacts on your mouse. It happens a lot in this game because of the wear and tear on your mouse is much more than a normal game. A good way to test your mouse is to go to control panel then select hardware and sound then under devices and printers select mouse. the first option there is button configuration. The first option for button configuration is switch primary and secondary buttons. This will allow you to take your shot with the right button instead of the left. As the right button has not been used as much as the left the contacts there should not be worn as much. If your shots are now normal you know beyond any doubt that your mouse needs to be replaced.

    +1

In all honesty I would not have even thought to test the mouse this way but it is the absolute logical way to go about it.

    LOL.

I am the wrong person to ask about that!  I can't hit the broad side of a barn these days!
