Sorry..sorry....sorry, i'm raging on about "deviation" what if it wasn't deviation, what if deviation is just a made up word to cover the bad game physics/inconsistancies we keep reading around the forums, your both on at me about playing a bad round, its all my fault but i got several shots in my round which were out of the ordinary, what can I do if 30 mph headwind does not effect the shot i'd planned, i.e punched 64 degree wedge going full distance.  Thats what i was trying to explain.  If i get bad round i putt it aside and carry on, but when the shot i had planned doesn't get effected by the wind shown your playing sort of "hit & hope" thats all,.....thanks you 2 for the "therapy" session LOL....tommorrow will be different

I am not on you for anything.  You played well.   I am a firm believer that most things in this game can be explained.  I believe VEM exists, but isn't being used.

On the same note, i showed you that your putt went as planned, just not as you planned!

So good luck in Rd 2 sir!

    Cheers,

    b0gey

Well round 1 is in the books for me. I had a decent front 9 going -5, at the turn. Great "mix" of winds for the front, 2 at my back, 2 in my face and 5 manageable crosswinds. The back 9 was an entirely different story. Had 2 tailwinds of 31mph on the par 3's and 7 almost direct headwinds. Add in a couple of shots that made absolutely no sense and I squeak away with a -4 for the round.

I totally understand the need to make this game harder, given the clubs and players that commit the endless hours to this game. But if adding ridiculous deviations and pounding us with wind are the only options, you've definitely backed yourself into a corner WGT.

Hole #12, 106 yards out 3ft down and 29mph in face @ 6:30. Move marker about 15-17 right of pin and dingggggggggg (108 punch shot touch of ts). Ball sails directly left and carries 114 yards, left of green and in that lil valley, scramble for hard par.

Hole #15, 230 out 2ft up and 28mph in my face @ 4:00 move marker and dinggggggggg. Ball sails completely straight as an arrow, no movement at all, miss green left and find 40/50. Hit with a 240 3w touch of ts and it carries 234 or something silly like that. Bogey 5 as I totally mishit next shot, my fault.

All in all it was great fun & an incredible challenge, just wish we as players had total control over all of our shots, instead of a program kicking in. Some may see this as a rant or a ***, well after a year & just under a $1000 spent, I think I'm entitled. Afterall, we spend the credits for the best possible "virtual" equipment there is. Is it so wrong of us to expect the best possible result on a dinged shot?

Best of luck to everybody in the Open :)

Chris I certainly wasn't try to get at you. I was merely suggesting that you look to yourself, as well as the game, for any failings on a particular round. In high winds and championship greens, it only takes the smallest of errors to see ugly results ;^)

First of sorry about your unlucky round Chris, I'm sure next round will be better as your a very good player. Now from my experiance @ WGT not much is more frustrating in this game than high wind, nothing is more unpredictable and inconsistent. I know youv'e played St . Andys high wind many times and gotten gr8 scores, but how many times did you play St. Andys with high winds and just leave shaking your head. I think its always a bit of a lottery when playing in high wind , not only in regard to catching the best wind or worst wind for a particular hole but also having the wind do what it shows. So often when you hit a shot the result makes no sense for the shown wind, and very often the wind looks totally differnt depending from which angle you look at.  Just today at St. Andys 11 the wind looked like a cross wind at the tee, so I couldn't figure out how in the heck my ball almost flew off the back of the green. But when I get to the green the wind looked like it was pointing @ 2 instead of being a cross wind, which would have been nice to know at the tee lol.  So I think playing in high wind just lends itself to very strange things happening Chris, just like in the Open on the weekend it's very unpredictable and it's very easy to get frustrated. No need for you to apologize to anyone for being pissed, it's your right as a golfer. I swear the whole time I'm playing about this or that, so what ? Anyway best of luck in the next round.

    Conditions were very tough....

65 in first round of open... I got a an unlucky windset... 30mph tailwind on holes I had to lay up on... 28 mph headwinds on long par 4s ( 2 unreachable) late click on 14 lost a ball out of bounds, and ended up bogeying an easy birdie ( sometimes eagle hole) Hitting only 61% of greens in regulation really helped my putting stats  ( only 2 putted 2 greens, all others were 1 putts)

I lost 2-3 shots on par 5 14, otherwise would only be a couple back of leaders... no complaints though, did my best and with a good windset on second round, could make up some shots.

Chris .... High Wind Effects putts .. always has ... on all of the courses .. once it's above 20 you have to take it into account .. especially on the longer putts.

Said the guy who played like chit .. :)

You know gang. Im nothing more than a avg hacker. I could'nt really get close to qualifying for either Open again this year, lord knows I tried.  What gets to me is listening to some horrible attitudes. Analog golf is all we have been given going way back to the first golf game produced. Its major shortcoming in half the peoples minds here was the predictability of knowing for example: If you had a 10 mile per hour left to right wind, all you had to do was move your curser 10 clicks to the left, get your distance right, hit the snap, and shoot 47. WGT in most of our minds, has a random factor of uncertainty that makes this more like real golf. I don't know how many rounds were played  for the Opens, but the folks that made the cut represent our very finest players. So we have a couple of hundred players that can really go low. If this was a perfect analog golf game the scores would be really rediculasly low. Well you can argue about bad draws with the wind direction. Hey in real golf the guys that go out in the early morning may get significally worse weather, or better conditions.

My point is, if your attitude was different, if you could learn how to accept adversity in all things in life, you will be a better human being, respected, and happier. Yes this game has some quirks. Im not really going to get into any stupid arguments with the trolls here. This is just my opinion. Your fortunate to be so good at this game that you can shoot 58 or lower on what is to me a difficult tract, i just flat don't get you!
