Havent played allot but - Reading the green speeds and breaks are very challenging- not to mention the chipping from fringes. any unwritten rules or advice I can use to improve?

I'd get a better putter. A lot of people think the spider is the worst club available here.

Lots of intel over to the right of this page, and now theres a wotsit in the pro shop to help judge the ball speed/distance on greens. You still do have to read the break, which is those moving dot jobbies, and practice more than somewhat.

    Good luck!

Putting is the toughest part of this game.

line up putt with your arrow.

distance hit should always equal about 1 foot past hole.

If the putt is up 2 inches add 2 feet. etc.

fast greens about 10% faster than standard.

    Very fast about 20%

    Tournament 25-30%

After lining up putt, in your backswing watch the gates that open. When you reach the spot that is about your distance, the gates will lock (stop) so backswing smoothly and slowly.

When the gate locks, let it go and most importantly ... Ding it!

Time will teach you the grid and breaks.

These are only approximate of course. You still gotta play to get better.

And ... I have a spider putter and it is great. The gates will put most putts dead on.

    Good luck!
