Just wondering if anyone has come across the scenario above and found a workable solution?

Pulling my hair out - that'll be singular - at the moment in frustration!

    Mr Hope???? :)

Would it help to disable auto updating until a solution is found? Or is it too late for that?

Can you force a shutdown, then restart?

    Hi Joe,

The large file size means it would take a good few hours to install under normal circumstances. At the moment it's sitting at 16% and that's already taken the best part of 3 hours.

It's a known issue that, from what I can garner, involves the BIOS being changed. Meantime it's taking me 10 minutes to even type this out and around 4 days to play a round pfft.

Yes, I went through that infernal experience myself last month. The loop happened a couple of times wasting basically the entire day so I had to force shut down the system twice. Ouch! :-( (I should've left it until the update got completed by itself but didn't have that patience presuming something had gone wrong.) To make the long story short, at the end I just downloaded the update file from the MS site* and installed it manually. (* https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10)

Remind you that the version 1809 is a huge upgrade so it will take long (over 2 hours easily) according to / even for those who had successful update with no problem. You want to initiate the update before you go to bed and finalize it in the morning. You also may want to back up your important files before the update because there's been reports stating that everything in "Documents" folder is completely gone (yes, permanently deleted!) after the update and there's no way to restore them. :^O

    Good luck to you!

    Simon

    @Scott & Joe:

    Soz for the delay.

Forced shut down, entered safe mode.

Then manually disabled and stopped updates from ever downloading without my say so and things seem to be OK... for now.

Check yer mail - there's a cheque in the post for both.  :)

    Cheers guys.

Thank you J. You probably would've shut it down eventually anyway if it was going to loop for ever.

You didn't have to, but thank you very much for the 'cheque', always appreciated as you know. ; )

    Scott.

I recently had the same issue and after hours of torment I decided it was either smash the computer or walk away....... It took 2 days for it to finally function normally. One another occasion an update made it so that the computer couldn't be shut down. After a couple days it also went back to normal....

So my advice would be, "Patients my young Grasshoppa". LOL
